ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS: Non rotating 40 hour work week, Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Will be required to work hours outside those listed due to system outages and/or updates.
Responsibilities
Work under general supervision of MIS management or Network Administrator [IT Program Coordinator] with responsibility for providing baseline technical support in the maintenance and operation of the City's wired network that include inside and outside copper and fiber cabling, phone and fax systems, leased line applications, support for the American Bank Center, and network diagnostics. In addition, this position will be responsible for supporting the city's wired network and peripheral equipment used on the network [including Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, and call managers]. Work in close cooperation with MIS management or Network Administrator [IT Program Coordinator] to carry out the responsibilities of this position which include the baseline implementation and technical support of the wired network [information systems and/or major modifications to existing information systems, at a professional level]. Requires the ability to work independently or as a part of a team to accomplish detailed work.
Must ensure the City's wired network is communicating and functioning properly. Implement and maintain complex network connectivity in accordance with established standards. Read and follow technical documents as well as write technical documentation. Perform system analysis, complex planning, monitoring, diagnosing, and troubleshooting of network connections. Advise and/or implement network connectivity improvements based upon the approved needs of the user departments and/or MIS management. Perform routine connectivity cabling and port connections, research and cost justifications, and documentation as well as respond to connectivity issues as they arrive, using effective means and responsive communication, identifying root cause, utilizing change management, and aligning with organizational goals to execute successful resolutions. Work on outside/inside cable plant [fiber/copper/conduit] as required or as outages occur. Research new tools and enhancements provided in new network infrastructure and make recommendations for use as they become available to improve efficiency and meet business requirements.
Proactively monitor and improve connectivity performance and efficiencies based on customer requirements, inputs, and current and future IT projects. As required, prepare oral and written reports to MIS management or users. Ensure that all requests comply with overall strategic plans or direction for information systems. Communicate regularly with MIS personnel responsible for related business applications and supporting infrastructure (databases, network, hardware, etc.) to ensure broad awareness of system interdependencies as well as technical plans and activities that may affect any of the enterprise systems and/or network systems performance. Assist network administrators, other technical specialist, and other MIS staff in support of network services for all City departments, functions, and applications. Participation in the MIS Network Support Process is required. Participation in enterprise user group meetings. Required to work during the Essential Services Phase of the City of Corpus Christi's Bad Weather Policy unless a waiver is requested and granted. Will be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Work requires an Associate Degree and two (2) years of related experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered. A valid driver's license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire. Ideal candidate would possess basic knowledge of network principles including IP addressing, network topologies, voice over IP, and basic switching and routing. Cisco knowledge and/or training is preferred but not required. A+ and/or Network+ certification is preferred, but will be able to obtain within six (6) months from hire date. Applicant must have good analytical and organizational skills, and good verbal and writing communication skills.
