Position Summary

A professional care provider who assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the nursing care of patients from admission through discharge. In collaboration with the patient and family, provides theory-based professional nursing care and coordinates care delivery with various members of the interdisciplinary team.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited nursing program preferred. An associate degree from an accredited School of nursing is required. BSN enrollment is required within 6 months of start date and completion within 3 years.

Experience:
  • 2 year of RN experience is required.
  • At least 2 yrs specialty exp required
  • First-timers accepted:

License/Certifications:
  • DC Registered Nurse License required
  • CPR (Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation) required
  • ACLS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Basic math skills. Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, safety standards, and MedStar SPIRIT Values. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Collects and analyzes significant patient information that pertains to physical, psychological, socio-cultural, economic, spiritual, and lifestyle behaviors and efficiently leverages available technology.
  • Functions autonomously providing relationship-based care that promotes continuous, consistent, efficient and accountable delivery of nursing care using the nursing process with a favorable focus on patient experience.
  • Identifies current and potential complex problems of specific patient populations, critically analyzes trends and changes in patient status, and plans appropriate interventions.
  • Incorporates evidence-based practice and research into patient care delivery, with a focus on quality and safety.
  • Serves as a patient advocate by independently communicating clinical concerns, including ethical decisions, promptly to other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Identifies patient and family needs before discharge. Initiates and monitors discharge planning activities in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Independently identifies resources and strategies to enhance professional growth and development and commits to lifelong learning.
Shift:
  • Day (3x12 Hours) 7:00 19:30 / Night (3x12 Hours) 19:00 7:00
  • Weekend REQ: 6 weekend shifts in a 6 week schedule.
  • Weekend shift is Saturday or Sunday.
  • Float Requirements: Travel RNs float first
Skills Required:
  • CERNER REQ
  • PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown,
  • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • Management of dysrhythmias
  • Starting IVs
  • MUST HAVE Cerner Ratios: 1:4
Special Procedures:
  • paracentesis, central line placements, lumbar punctures (Y) Required to float within units of equivalent or lower level of acuity.

  • This facility requires that all employees have the Flu vaccine*
  • *May come into contact with COVID patients*

  • MUST HAVE Cerner
  • Scrubs: any color or print
  • Orientation: 4 hr class, 8 hr modules,12 hr clinical shift- Day 3 independent COVID-19 -
  • all travelers must be able and willing to accept assignments that include COVID-19 patients
