Job Description

Purpose of Position:

Assume a leadership role as the Lead Psychologist on assigned units of the Behavioral Health Service in collaboration with the Psychiatrist and the multidisciplinary team to assess and treat the behavioral and psychological needs of individual patients, the milieu and the program.

Areas of Responsibilities:

INPATIENT PSYCHIATRY

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Inpatient Psychiatry Attending in the Behavioral Health Department/ and the Director of Psychological Services with latitude for independent initiative and judgment the Psychologist/Associate Chief, will perform the following functions:
• Provide clinical and administrative leadership in collaboration with Unit Chief to unit-based staff
and treatment team members.
• Attend service based multidisciplinary rounds, leadership rounds, nursing tour sign out reports,
administrative leadership rounds and Inpatient leadership meetings.
• Utilizing objective and subjective risk assessment tools to identify high risk patients on the
service.
• Facilitate individualized behavioral plans.
• In collaboration with psychiatric leadership and the multidisciplinary team, assess milieu-based
• Facilitate psychology discipline specific unit-based group therapy.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to identify areas of focus including new initiatives,
implementing outcome measures, and aligning work output to meet current standards.
• Collaborate with program leadership to establish standards of work that maximize efficiency,
safety and quality of care.
• Maintain focus on key strategic priorities including patient experience and quality of care.
• Provide consultation to other disciplines on individual behavioral treatment plans for patients
with identified special needs.
• Serve as an active member of an interdisciplinary treatment team and consult with other
disciplines regarding diagnoses, prognosis interventions and recommendations for disposition
of individual cases.
• Contribute to the interdisciplinary treatment plan in the medical record as indicated.
• Assess and address unit-based training needs for behavioral management, crisis intervention
and trauma focused care.
• Participate in Department Quality Assurance activities and relevant Performance improvement
projects.
• Provides supervision of Psychology Trainees, oversees Psychological Testing/Evaluations for
patients on the unit
• Conducts in-service trainings to Inpatient staff to improve understanding of milieu dynamics and
a better understanding of Psychological difficulties experienced by patients.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Master's Degree in Public Administration, Public Health, Health Care Specialization, Social Work, Psychology or related field; and
2. Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in hospital or regulatory agency administration, with particular emphasis on development and evaluation of mental health delivery services; or
3. Possession of a valid license and current registration to practice in a mental health field issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
