Specific Responsibilities:

This position reports directly to the Executive Community Health Nursing Director. This position will work to support secondary prevention of childhood lead poisoning through core public health functions of assurance such as ensuring blood lead testing and reporting, enhancing blood lead surveillance, supporting long-term infrastructure for data collection, management, and dissemination, improving linkages to recommended services and develop targeted population-based policy interventions.

This position is responsible for the following:
  • Conduct lead disease surveillance, investigation, reporting and follow up utilizing MERLIN database.
  • Provide education and partner with local providers regarding lead reporting portal, lead reporting requirements and follow up, and disseminate data quality reports to providers.
  • Conduct point-of-care screenings in high risk/target population groups.
  • Conduct outreach activities for Lead Poisoning Awareness Prevention Week.
  • Participates in community outreach activities and partners with cultural organizations for outreach events.
  • Improves linkages to recommended services by increasing resources for patient referrals.
  • Maintains and assures confidentiality serving as a security resource within their division and as a member of the security team is assigned responsibility for maintaining information in accordance with state and federal statutes, rules, regulations and DOH policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Participates in disaster relief efforts to include special needs shelter duty.
  • Participates in staff meetings/trainings, staff development, and continuing education programs.
  • Other duties as requested by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of basic pharmaceutical terminology and calculations.
  • Knowledge of basic computer software and data entry.
  • Skill in using medical instruments or testing equipment.
  • Skill in calibrating liquid unit dosing equipment and dose exchange systems.
  • Skill in taking blood pressure readings.
  • Ability to interview students to obtain health information.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to keep accurate records.
  • Ability to distribute prescribed medications.
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Required - Licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464 F.S.; Chapter 64B9 F.A.C.
  • Required - Driver's License
  • Required - Current CPR certification
