Develop, plan, design, and conduct research. Review progress and evaluate results. Design certain aspects of a research project and independently conduct work complementary to the overall research objective.Formulate research methods. Develop or collaborate in the development of new techniques, methods, and equipment. Recommend solutions for research methodology by interpreting principles and analyzing complex facts.Conduct library searches to find research on related procedures and techniques that can be used in the laboratory. Write summaries of projects, document findings and procedures used, and assist in writing reports by conducting literature searches and background research; prepare bibliographies as required.Maintain clear, detailed laboratory notebooks and electronic files with experimental procedures, calculations, and data. Assist with compiling data and generating computerized statistical data for analytical purposes using software packages.Coordinates the acquisition of lab supplies, including doing inventory and ordering.Coordinate laboratory functions including lab equipment management. Clean, sterilize, operate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment, machinery and instruments used for research.Assist with ensuring regulatory compliance of the research program.Train students and staff in the operation of equipment and/or in the performance of technical procedures.Maintain detailed records of controlled substances used in the laboratory, package waste material, and arrange for disposal according to established procedures.Additional duties as assigned.Present results at laboratory meetings and conferences. Prepare poster presentations for conferences. Participate in conferences. Assist with manuscript preparation for publication, including data generation and analysis, generating figures, drafting manuscript text, and online submission.Participate in the acquisition of research funding by contributing to grant proposals and progress reports.Evaluation of research technologies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline.Knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analyses.Skill in designing and performing experiments to answer scientific questions.Skill in troubleshooting experimental techniques.Skill in analyzing and evaluating data.Ability to effectively communicate.
