UNIT SECRETARY

The Unit Secretary assists the Director of Patient Care and the staff nurses by performing diversified secretarial duties. These duties include but are not limited to: filing, document storage and retrieval, reception, typing, routine record keeping, maintain supplies and equipment, maintaining monthly statistics.
Qualifications:
Required:
* High School Diploma or GED
Preferred:
* Computer Skills (ie: Word, Excel, Windows)
* Knowledge of medical terminology
* Previous unit secretary or medical office experience
* Excellent communication skills
* Ability to work in a fast paced environment
Scheduling Requirements:
* Days vary with shifts being 3:00pm-11:00pm with a rotation of weekends and holidays
* Evening shifts
* Part Time
Essential Functions:
* Interacts with patients and families to help facilitate high quality patient care
* Communicates and collaborates with hospital staff, physicians, and medical offices to develop and maintain procedural schedules
* Answers phones promptly and relays information to appropriate person
* Assembles and disassembles designated charts appropriately
* Identifies and reports potential and actual patient safety issues
* Keeps medical record complete and in order
* Maintains unit supplies at appropriate par levels
* Maintains communication with the Bed Controller and cooperates with room assignments
* Performs required clerical work relating to the admission, transfer and discharge
* Reviews charts for needed forms. Charts TPR, B/P for their shift on graphic reports records. Attaches all diagnostic reports to chart.
