The salary range for this position is $17.38- $27.36 based on experience

Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title based on their experience and education

Optional sign-on bonus of $2500.00 with 1-year work agreement

Purpose:

Under limited supervision, the Sr. EMT ensures safe and healthy environment for patients and employees by providing competent health and medical services in a prehospital setting. The Sr. EMT will work as part of the team to care for critically ill and injured patients and will follow PA DOH BLS, ALS and CCG guidelines. The Sr. EMT is expected to execute independent judgment, to deliver appropriate care that is consistent with the clinical protocols, when contact with a medical command physician is not possible. The Sr. EMT fulfills education and experiential requirements as established by the Medical Director, and performs other duties as assigned. Supports and upholds the mission, goals, and objectives, of the UPMC system at all times.

Responsibilities:

* Maintains clean patient environment as well as crew quarters
* Ensures safe operation of patient laden stretcher employing appropriate stretcher discipline at all times.
* Maintains safe loading, unloading, adjustment of head of stretcher, and stretcher movement.
* Reflects a positive attitude to the customer in a high stress environment at all times, with a clear understanding of who the customer is.
* Reports injuries and completes the appropriate documentation, no matter how minor, to a supervisor in a timely manner.
* Maintains fitness for duty by adhering to all employee health requirements, including maximum weight, hearing conservation program, and required medical screenings.
* Participates constructively in the peer-review driven quality improvement program.
* Performs all assigned duties, including daily, weekly, monthly, or other duties assigned by the base site manager.
* Responsible for the safe operation of the transport vehicle and ensures a safe environment for patient and other healthcare workers in and around CEM vehicles.
* Completes all official documentation in a timely manner such as payroll, expense reports, orientation forms, etc.
* Ensures the safety of patients and all others. Utilizes appropriate safety channels to report safety concerns, and uses tools available to enhance a safe work environment.
* Performs daily equipment check (vehicle, medications).
* Selects and uses personal protective equipment appropriate to the level of the anticipated hazard.
* Maintains and ensures adequate vehicle operation including proper fuel, fluid levels, lights, sirens, radio, cellular phone functioning.
* Works with Regional Medical Manager to ensure all mechanical deficiencies are corrected.
* Demonstrates the ability to establish a rapport with customers; including the ability to create and sustain a positive relationship; regardless of circumstances, environment, or patient presentation.
* Ensures crew is logged onto computer duty roster.
* Responds promptly and efficiently to all requests for service.
* Ensures patient and family confidentiality and dignity at all times.
* Participates in shift report from off going crew.
* Collects and promptly processes demographic, medical necessity, and other necessary billing information.
* Participates in scheduled and unscheduled outreach activities, representing the UPMC and STAT MedEvac system.
* Collaborates with PHRN and Paramedic to care for critically ill or injured patients in adherence with established protocols and standards of care; assessing online medical command or other resources when appropriate.
* Reports for work well rested, and fit for duty.
* Adhering to the drug and alcohol policy at all times. including prescription and/or over the counter medicine use.
* Demonstrates skills, competencies, and judgment necessary to provide patient care in any environment; using educational resources that are required or made available.
* Adheres to the current uniform policy.
* Actively participates in the development and training of new staff.
* Equipment checks.
* Adheres to rules for scheduling, including schedule requests, minimum time, and availability.

Qualifications:

* 1 year EMT experience.
* High School Diploma (or equivalent) required 1 professional contribution selected from department, hospital or system goals, and approved by your Manager.
* Previous ambulance and/or hospital experience preferred.
* Reliable transportation and be willing to travel to any STAT MedEvac base site as assigned.
* Must be able to successfully complete the prescribed orientation program, including classroom, clinical rotations, educational competencies, and on the job training.
* Must work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities, and specialized equipment.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
* CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
* PA Emergency Service Vehicle Operation (EMSVO)
* EMT Certification Driver's license
* NIMS Incident Command, NIMS Single Resources, NIMS Introduction Course

Clearances must be dated within 90 days

* Advanced Emergency Medical Technician OR Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
* Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
* Driver's License
* Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
* Act 33 with renewal
* Act 34 with renewal
* Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
