Main Purpose of Job

This part time contractual position at Deer's Head Hospital Center is responsible for supervising and administering treatments, rehabilitation, diagnostic evaluations and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system by providing respiratory therapy services. This position provides technical advice and guidance on respiratory care procedures to subordinate respiratory therapists and health care professionals. The population served may range from adolescence through late, late adulthood.

Per the
Amended Directive and Order Regarding Vaccination (MDH # 2023.04.18.03) issued
by the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health, effective April 18,
2023, staff in all hospitals and residential facilities operated by the
Maryland Department of Health or any local health department are required to
show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Staff includes, but is not limited to, regular
and contractual employees, contractual staff, volunteers, and other state
employees performing any duties at the facility. An individual may request an
accommodation by providing appropriate and sufficient documentation for bona
fide medical or religious reasons.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Physicians under the licensing requirements for a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
Experience: One year of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
Note:Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces militaryservice experience as a commissioned officer in RespiratorySpecialist classifications orRespiratoryTherapy specialtycodes in the RespiratoryTherapyfield of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner from the Maryland State Board of Physicians, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.
2. Employees in this classification are required to successfully complete and maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1.Candidates for this classification may be given a medical examination prior to appointment to determine their ability to perform the work of the position.
2.Employees in this classification may be required to provide the facility with a telephone number at which they can be reached.
3.Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing inaccordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for IllegalUse of Drugs.

Candidates may remain on thecertified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
