St. John Providence Children's Hospital is located within St. John Hospital & Medical Center, a 776-bed tertiary care hospital. St. John Providence is part of Ascension, the largest provider of inpatient care in southeast Michigan.

Responsibilities

Ascension St. John Hospital is looking for a Pediatric Intensivist for our Department of Pediatrics.

This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to partner with Ascension St. John Hospital to provide medical services to our Pediatric patients.

Position Highlights:

* The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is an 8-bed multidisciplinary unit dedicated to improving the health and safety of all children in Southeast Michigan. The PICU team provides care for pediatric medical and surgical patients.
* Pediatric subspecialty support is available in all areas: cardiology, neurology, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, endocrinology, surgery, ENT and others.
* The hospital is designated as a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center.
* The division provides comprehensive critical care management to over 600 patients annually as well as sedation services.
* We are actively involved in pediatric resident and medical student education. Our pediatric residency program has the highest board passing rate in the country.
* St. John Hospital and Medical Center is located in one of the most desirable communities in Michigan. Grosse Pointe Public schools consistently rank at the top in the state, and recreational opportunities abound. You are only moments away from beautiful museums, professional sports, theaters, opera, symphony, and fine dining and ten minutes from the hospital.

Responsibilities:

* Evaluates and treats patients with appropriate medical diagnostic and treatment skills. Coordinates discharge planning with case management.
* Recommends, participates in, and works to ensure the success of efforts to improve cost effectiveness and quality of care provided to patients.
* Accepts patient referrals from other physicians. Acts as admitting, attending and/or consulting physician for patients who require hospitalization for primary medical diagnoses, depending on needs of patients, medical staff and hospital.
* Participates in academic programs (e.g. medical education and research) as requested.
* Provides appropriate documentation that meets insurance company requirements; appeal all denials in a timely manner.
* Participates in inpatient and outpatient consultation for specialty, which may include on call schedules.

Requirements

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Required Credential(s):

* Physician MD/DO with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Michigan Board of Medicine obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office.

Preferred Credential(s):

* Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA).

Education:

* Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Optometry (OD) or Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) required.

Additional Preferences

Qualifications:

* A graduate of an accredited medical school and Pediatric residency program
* Completion of Pediatric Critical Care fellowship program
* BC Pediatrics and BE/BC Pediatric Critical Care
* Licensed or eligible to obtain license with the State of Michigan
