Job Purpose:

To perform Pre-OP, PACU and Circulating responsibilities as well as to assume many of the daily operational tasks of an ambulatory surgical center.

Essential Functions:

* Prepares the operating room according to the procedure being performed and the patients' needs.
* Anticipates the needs of the surgical team and assists the anesthesia staff by supporting the patient during anesthesia administration.
* Assists with the proper and safe positioning of the patient and prepares the operative site as directed by established procedure.
* Assists with supply ordering and inventory management.
* Completes required data collection to meet state regulations.
* Initiates IV's, administers medications, and ensures patient comfort.
* Ability to assess, instruct, and prepare patients prior to surgery and prior to discharge.
* Monitors patients' vital signs and other measurements of progress to meet discharge criteria.
* Has the ability to act quickly and safely in the event of an emergency.
* Demonstrates an aptitude for maintaining pace of abbreviated patient encounters, keeping patient flow to a minimum peri-operative stay.
* Exhibits specialized knowledge, skill, and abilities in the fundamentals of peri-operative nursing
* Demonstrated knowledge to clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instrumentation according to ANSI, AAMI, and APIC standards.
* Shows a strong respect for co-workers.
* Demonstrates willingness to abide by the practice's protocols, as well as state and federal regulations and presents oneself with a positive and professional image.
* Additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

* Prior pre-operative, surgical and/or PACU nursing experience.
* Graduated from an accredited school of nursing with a diploma, Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
* Holds an active and unrestricted nursing license in the state of Alaska.
* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
* Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
