Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Utilization Review Nurse (UR RN) uses a collaborative process, which provides professional accountability for the utilization of the health care resources to the patient or their representative, the person or organization paying for the care, and the public. The Utilization Review Nurse monitors patients' admissions and the level of care on an ongoing basis to assure that patients receive care that is medically necessary, safe, and delivered in the most cost-effective manner. The Utilization Review Nurse monitors the quality of hospital care for various committees and teams as appropriate. Communicates any unnecessary or arbitrary costs utilizing industry standards to promote quality cost-effective outcomes.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Licensure/Certification:

* Current State of California Registered Nursing License required.

Knowledge:

* Minimum of 2 years nursing experience required, experience in a variety of settings preferred.

* Experience where leadership, integrity, initiative and effective communication skills have been demonstrated.

* Knowledge of healthcare financial system required.

* Knowledge of industry standards for utilization review.

Skills:

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Exhibits openness to change and willingness to try new approaches

* Experience with team building, consensus building and decision-making process

* Ability to prioritize work assignments

* Physical and mental health adequate to meet the demands of the job
