Job Summary
This position is responsible for direct assistance to the Dean of the School of Health & Natural Sciences.
Responsibilities
Academic Program Leadership and Management -
Assist the Dean in matters relating to curriculum
Provides leadership for special initiatives designed to promote student success and degree completion.
Promote and support the design and implementation of innovative programs, courses and field experiences
This role has a significant student recruitment expectation
Supports efforts within the School to improve retention, progression, and graduation rates.
Works with students to resolve curriculum and degree completion issues.
Provides leadership for and coordination of learning activities within the School.
Personnel Management -
Assist the Dean in matters relating to the evaluation, recruitment, and appointment of faculty
Other Duties -
Assist the Dean in other matters as directed by the Dean in the administration of the School.
Cooperates both internally and externally to promote the welfare of MGA, and School programming.
Serves on committees at the university and System level as assigned.
Represents the university at university and stakeholder events and activities along with the dean, as well as in his or her absence.
Teach each year unless granted reassigned time by the Provost to assume responsibilities such as program accreditation, new program development and implementation, or other defined purposes.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a doctoral degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
Other Required Qualifications
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver¿s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Required Experience
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the different objectives and functions of the subunits in the School in order to direct and coordinate work within the School; must have at least two years of academic administrative experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of at least one relevant discipline within the School as well as the USG core curriculum.
Knowledge of accreditation requirements, including any special or secondary accreditation requirements.
Knowledge of assessment and strategic planning strategies.
Knowledge of budget development and management principles.
Knowledge of classroom practices, teaching methodologies, assessment systems, and educational technology.
Skill in the delegation of responsibility and authority.
Skill to make timely decisions.
Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
Skill in decision-making and problem solving.
Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
Skill in oral and written communication.
