Above all, we believe that collaboration is the best way forward.Solid Waste Facilities PracticeThe Solid Waste Facilities Practice resides under the Waste Sector within the Resources Business Group. HDR has been a leader in solid waste facility design for over 60 years, with experience throughout North America and globally. Our Waste Facilities Practice provides planning, permitting, feasibility analysis, engineering and design, construction, monitoring and operational services associated with transfer stations, material recovery, composting, waste-to-energy, drop-off and citizen convenience centers and landfill facilities.Leading HDR’s Waste Facilities practice through a combination of technical leadership, business development, relationship building, and direct billable work for clients on waste facility design projects. This role is targeted to provide full-time technical direction and oversight to expand HDR’s market share and branding in the waste facilities design field in North America and globally.Primary ResponsibilitiesThe Waste Facilities Practice Leader will lead the development and implementation of business strategies in coordination with the Waste Market Sector leadership and other technical Business Class Directors and Practice Leaders, business development and operational leadership. Reporting to the Waste Market Sector Director, and in close coordination with the Waste Business Class Leader and Regional Waste Leaders to advance the waste facilities practice. Initiate and support frequent and regular communication across the country on waste leadership, technical development, technologies, regulatory compliance, implementation of strategic plans and delivery of key waste facility projects. This technical practice leader will support and collaborate across various regions and business service lines to advance a variety of strategies intended to support and grow the waste market sector.Specific activities include the following:Participate in Resources Business Group (RBG) strategic and tactical planning activities, and the development of strategic positioning with individual Areas in the West, Central and East regions of North America. Assess marketplace opportunities, gage HDR prospects, and development of prioritized client targets.Leverage industry contacts to expand relationships with HDR technical staff and clients in key locations.Lead the development of waste facilities project experience qualifications and other marketing materials.Lead and participate in direct project pursuits including targeted client relationship development and premarketing, preparation of qualifications, proposals, interview content, scopes of work, project budgets and contract negotiations.Coordinate with local, regional and national Building Engineering Services (BES) Business Group leadership in the preparation of project proposal support and budgets for facility design.Participate in national project pursuits with waste facility activities including preparation of statement of qualifications, technical approaches, proposal and interviews.Perform quality control reviews of project deliverables.Direct billable work on waste facility projects.Participate on project teams in Project Manager or Project Principal role for Waste Facilities project work.Participate in the interviewing and selection of waste facility staff in other areas. Identify key talent in the facilities market and assist with recruitment of identified talent including key staff retention.Perform other duties as required to support the Waste Market Sector#LI-BK1QualificationsBS in Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Environmental Engineering or related sciences discipline.A minimum of 10 years of technical experience associated with the coordination of multidiscipline project design teams associated with complex structures, waste management experience, solid waste facility design, planning, feasibility analysis and construction.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Flexibility and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and collaborate with various managers in a fast-paced environment.Ability to travel.Registered Professional Engineer with the capability for reciprocity.Preferred QualificationsMS in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering or related sciences.Experience with client development (i.e. marketing) responsibilities such as workshops, presentations, proposal content development and business development strategy.Why HDRAt HDR, we know work isn’t only about who you work for; it’s also about what you do and how you do it. led by the strength of our values and a culture shaped by employee ownership, we network with each other, build on each other’s contributions, and collaborate to make great things possible. The expected compensation range depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
