Overview

Client ISP/OSP engineers are responsible for the design, construction, maintenance, and regular evaluation of the corporate IT network physical plant infrastructure at or between the 271 passenger, rail, bus, light rail, and corporate sites in New Jersey, NYC, and Pennsylvania. Primary function is to conduct surveys, research, recommend, design, create construction documents, scopes of work, bills of materials, and then obtain trades to build out under your direction.

Projects include design and build outs within an inside plant environment in general office buildings, offices, conference rooms, data centers, telco rooms, MDFs and IDFs. Outside plant locations include underground or aerial builds on or between campuses, at rail and bus maintenance facilities, rail and bus stations, on rail rights-of-way, in tunnels, or other sites typical to the transportation industry. Physical plant designs would include determining space needs, pathways, fiber and copper structured cabling, carrier circuit infrastructure, equipment, racks, cabinets, power and backup power requirements, network equipment, and environmental needs.

Client IT infrastructure supports not only CLIENTs bus, rail, and light rail operations but also the Client and State Police radio, CCTV at every site, passenger communications, public address, signage, bank transactions, and a host of corporate and customer applications built over various types of plant including, terrestrial, cellular, WIFI, and microwave.

Functions:

  • Perform initial engineering site surveys based on project needs.
  • Document surveys to determine feasibility and the estimated cost.
  • Obtain authorization to proceed and confirm funding.
  • Create detailed engineering drawings of the ISP/OSP build, floor plans, structured cabling diagrams, power, and environmental needs, and equipment elevation drawings.
  • Designs must conform to state, local, national, CLIENT standards and codes, and to the NJ historical and or environmental commissions.
  • Based on the engineering documents create a SOW (Scope of Work) and BOM (Bill of Materials).
  • Submit to CLIENT manager to approve and proceed when funding is validated.
  • Create a construction package and submit to contractors or in house for quotes.
  • Review quotes and choose the low bid qualified contractor ot inhouse trades to complete the work.
  • If UCC permits are required coordinate submittals to the DCA or local agency.
  • Develop schedules with all stakeholders on timelines for work.
  • Confirm workers are safety trained and conform to CLIENT, Amtrak, Conrail, Light Rail, FRA, and OSHA requirements.
  • Supervise and manage installations and conduct inspections.
  • Review work to ensure contractor met obligations under terms of contract.
  • Inform CLIENT managers of status to approve invoices.
  • Coordinate with CLIENT network engineering to connect, configure, and install the network equipment in the ISP/OSP space built out.
  • Review and confirm a successful installation and working as intended.
  • Perform high level break fix of IT infrastructure troubles or repairs.
  • Daily travel to any location depending on scheduled or unscheduled work.

Knowledge: High Level Skills In:

  • Inside and outside plant engineering
  • Interior building designs of space IT rooms, data centers, cabinets, racks, power, structured cabling, hardware in plenum, non plenum, and industrial locations
  • Structured cabling design of fiber optic single mode and multimode cable and hardware design, bandwidth, and distance limitations, budget loss.
  • Structured cabling design of copper ethernet such as Cat6, Cat6a cable and hardware design, bandwidth, and distance limitations
  • Carrier circuit entrance, dmarcs, and equipment builds for data and voice circuits.
  • Outside plant aerial and underground systems, utility poles, manholes, handholes, duct banks, conduits and OSP network cable types and uses.
  • Electrical power calculations including backup power design and sizing.
  • NEC codes such as NFPA-70, NFPA-130
  • Division 16/17 Master Format, UCC construction documentation.
  • BICSI, IEEE, TIA 568, 569, 570, Best Practices.
  • Estimating costs, time, and materials.
  • Microsoft Office, and Teams, Visio or CAD for document preparation.
  • Managing IT projects from inception to production.
  • Troubleshooting structured cabling, copper/fiber.
  • Data Center DCIM Tools (Data Center Infrastructure Management)
