Summary You will serve as a Civil Engineer (Structural) in the Capital Improvements Division of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST. Duties * You will assess structural condition of facilities to determine needs for repairs and modifications. * You will analyze and design extensive structural alterations. * You will perform quality assurance review of drawings, specifications, calculations, cost estimates, and studies prepared by A/E design firms. * You will create written documents such as specifications, test requirement documents, and drawings for civil engineering projects. * You will complete design drawings and specifications with design and drafting software. * You will review plans, designs, and construction phases to ensure civil engineering projects remain in scope. * You will investigate construction to make recommendations for remediation or corrective measures. * You will advise on solutions to problems encountered during projects. Requirements Conditions of Employment * This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. * Must be a US Citizen. * Must be determined suitable for federal employment. * Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. * New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Qualifications Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience as a professional civil engineer at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Your resume must demonstrate the following Specialized experience:
1) Providing professional structural engineering products, services, and consultation with facilities planning, design, construction, and maintenance;
2) Ensuring planning, design, and construction are completed in accordance with specifications, criteria, policy, industry codes and standards;

To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above) OR Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
