Bennett Aerospace Inc., a subsidiary of Three Saints Bay, LLC, and a Federal Government Contractor industry leader, is seeking a Biological Engineer IV at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida Responsibilities: The ideal candidate is an experienced, self-sufficient hands-on scientist or engineer with a solid background in testing and understanding biological wastewater treatments especially as it relates to ISS and future space mission waste streams and conditions and microbiological production of beneficial molecules (biomanufacturing). Preference will be given to candidates having a master's or Ph.D. with experience in the following areas: environmental engineering, wastewater treatment and biological reactors for treatment and biomanufacturing. The ideal candidate will be required to: * Design and lead tests to answer specific research questions or provide data on materials. * Work with bioreactors. * Demonstrate strengths and work well in a team environment and build on ideas of other team members to solve complex problems. * Work across multiple projects, and potentially multiple labs simultaneously. * Demonstrate good time management and organizational skills. * Keep the lab clean, participate in lab cleanups, inventories, and all other lab activities. * Write up results, produce reports, and author papers for journals and conferences. * The individual will be required to be in compliance with all required safety, health, and IT mandates for working in the laboratory at KSC. * Skilled biological engineer to maintain, operate and study bioreactors for wastewater processing and bio-molecule production. * Writing and authoring publications and proposals, strategic planning for future research opportunities and understanding of chemical and biological processes for wastewater treatment. * The ideal candidate is an experienced, self-sufficient hands-on scientist or engineer with a solid background in testing and understanding biological wastewater treatments especially as it relates to ISS and future space mission waste streams and conditions and microbiological production of beneficial molecules (biomanufacturing). * Knowledge of mass balance and microbial interactions in multi-phased waste processing as well as system design is highly desirable. * The individual will need to work collaboratively with skilled teams and be able to design, contribute to proposals, and execute research projects that contribute to answering research questions related to closed ecological systems for space mission architecture. * They will be required to write reports and publish in relevant scientific as well as present at meetings. Equipment and Machines: * Computers and printers used for producing reports and schedules. * Variety of equipment used in testing, bioreactors, pumps, bottled gasses, regulators, data acquisition systems and data processing skills. * Position is an "on site" position where the individual is expected to be in the lab or office 80% or more of the time and available for team interactions and discussions. * Position may require occasional overtime including weekend work depending on task. * Must be able to accurately communicate ideas in writing and verbal communication. * Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote, etc.) * Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary. Requirements: * Experience in water chemistry testing. * Primary author relevant publications. * Understanding and experience with design and operation of bioreactors. * Microbiological culturing techniques including aseptic technique and media preparation. * Molecular analytical techniques. * Experience as a test conductor and test engineer. * Experience authoring detailed operational procedures incorporating technical, quality, and safety elements. * Experience with developing the following types of documents is preferred: System requirements, test requirements and plans, and procurement specifications. * Familiarity with bioinformatics software for microbial community analysis. * General familiarity with KSC and WSA processes and procedures is preferred. * Experience with MS Office products is required. * Effective task/project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills are required. * This position requires working with team members including engineers, technicians, and subcontractors, and peers in supporting NASA and other customers. * Excellent leadership, communication, and team skills are required. Security Requirements: Background check * Government security clearance may be required in the future. * Applicants selected will be subject to a Government background investigation and must meet eligibility and suitability requirements. * Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a US Government security clearance. * Successful Pass of Bennett Aerospace Background Investigation, Drug Screening and Credit Check.
