DLBA is a naval architecture and marine engineering firm which provides consulting services for the development of a wide variety of boats: fiberglass recreational boats like Mastercraft’s Aviara series, and aluminum workboats like the Kayak Express, custom Sportfishing vessels, and high speed motor yachts. We specialize in high-performance marine craft design and engineering yet support all types of vessels and clients from record-setting high-speed race boats to commercial marine tugs and barges..   Our team is often engaged with research and development projects bringing new technologies to the waterfront. DLBA Naval Architects is seeking a Naval Architect with a well-rounded balance of practical naval architecture and marine engineering experience.  As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide naval architecture support in the development of steel, aluminum, and composite (a) recreational vessels, (b) commercial ship designs, and (c) U.S. Government craft from 20’ to 250’ feet in length.  The ideal candidate is an experienced naval architect with extensive design experience and in-depth knowledge of the design process.  Primary Responsibilities * Prepare accurate and detailed engineering calculations using first principles hand calculations and devising approaches to challenges encountered.  * Assist Project Managers in the design of boats and craft and providing solutions by applying existing design skills, techniques, and company procedures. * Adhere to existing Engineering Standards and Procedures in conjunction with other engineering staff to improve product quality and efficiency. * Clearly document work solutions and challenges, collaborate with respective Engineers to develop solutions. * Complete engineering assignments accurately and on a timely basis utilizing standard engineering programs. Required Qualifications: * U.S. Citizenship is required and candidates must be able to obtain a security clearance * B.S. Degree or higher in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field * 2-4 years of technical engineering experience in Naval Architecture * Requires a broad knowledge of marine engineering and an in-depth knowledge of principles, practices and related technologies * Strong knowledge of specifications and regulatory requirements (BS/RINA/LR/ISO/USCG/ABYC) * Knowledge and experience with developing calculations and drawings for Class and Flag review and approval. * Strong time management and organization skills as an independent contributor * Demonstrated experience solving technical problems using first principles hand calculations and devising new approaches to challenges encountered.  * Proficiency in using industry-standard CAD software, including AutoCAD and Rhino * Experience with developing technical scopes of supply and collaboration with vendors * Demonstrated Interpersonal Skills as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team * Strong analytical skills, communication, and interpersonal skills * Excellent MS Office skills, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel Desired Qualifications: * M.Sc. Degree or Ph.D Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field * Professional Engineer’s License * Project Management Professional certification * Shipyard or Boatyard Experience Original Posting Date: 2024-04-22
