Our organization includes High Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Mission Critical Solutions (MCS), Edgeline, Moonshot and Hewlett Packard Labs. TEKsystems is seeking a passionate and skilled Linux Systems Administrator to provide system management, daily monitoring and optimization. In this role, you will provide technical leadership and execution, and be supporting a mission-critical customers, providing pre-installation configuration, on-site integration, administration, and customer enablement of HPE’s computing solution. In this role, you will:
• Work as an active member of the account team, interacting with the Service Delivery Manager, Sales, the customer, and site staff
• Answer customer inquiries concerning system software versions, product lifecycles, new releases, and third-party applications
• Maintain the Linux system availability to the customer, but also create and document site procedures, system diagrams, and other configuration or support documents
• Maintain system software and firmware revisions, including patches, updates, and OS upgrades
• Solve system hardware, software, and third-party software issues, and provide detailed and thoughtful analysis of problem and solution
• Gather data, perform analysis, and escalate problems to higher-level product support groups and appropriate management when necessary to ensure timely resolution of system or customer issues
• Implement solutions, repairs and workarounds, fully documenting steps taken when required
• Document and share troubleshooting techniques, new ideas, and utilities to help develop and grow organizational knowledge
• Manage software issues for both the system and user applications, submitting and tracking bugs as required Required tasks:
- Service delivery
o Log in to HPC system compute, network, and storage components and run commands and scripts to manage and maintain the system health and performance
o Write scripts and configuration files to automate system administration tasks and maintain consistency of how and when administration tasks are run
o Review log files for errors and warnings indicating possible issues with system health and performance, and collaborate with customers and HPE on resolution
o Plan ahead and exercise appropriate caution and care when executing privilege-level commands
o Collaborate with team members using face-to-face, phone, and online communication including email, Teams, and Slack
o Support planning and scheduling of system software upgrades including estimation of time and effort required to complete
o Occasionally assist with hands-on hardware and system installation activities when needed - Issue resolution
o Participate in regular team discussions of system issues and follow-up on assigned tasks
o Perform triage and diagnosis of issues with compute, network, and storage
o Prescribe HW actions to be taken for repairs
o Provide status to Site Team Lead and/or directly to customer
o Create new Cases (if necessary) and elevate Cases to Level 2/Level 3 support as needed difficult problem diagnostics or issue resolution - Customer coordination
o Specific touchpoints and roles & responsibilities between customer system administrators and HPE system administrators may vary according to customer needs and service level.
o Generally, HPE system administrators support customer system administrators.
 Customer system administrators expose the HPC resources to their end-users, set up and manage job scheduling queues, determine job load, set priority on user jobs, and are alerted to job issues or failures.
 HPE system administrators (this role) maintain awareness of the customer job load and job completion. This is usually done by both watching the system status directly on the system, and monitoring customer communications via Slack, Teams, etc.
 HPE system administrators assist, and support system or job issues or failures, suggest resolutions, and coordinate with customer system administrators to execute resolution activities. - Professional development:
o Complete required training when assigned on specialized compute, network, and storage operating systems in a timely manner
o Maintain training and certification prescribed by HPE and/or customer
o Monitor HPE technical communications (e.g. field notices) for awareness of potential issues that could be encountered on the system at their site. Additional Skills & Qualifications Clearance: Active TS/SCI required Required Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related area of study OR equivalent work experience
• 10+ years of HPC-related experience, ideally with large-scale HPC and parallel file system administration and support Required Knowledge and Skills:
• Linux operating systems (RHEL or SLES), workload management systems, parallel file systems, networking and security
• Technical skills to investigate and resolve complex problems
• Direct experience and demonstrated proficiency with multiple programming and scripting languages (e.g. Perl, Python, C, etc.) preferred
• Ability to maintain system software, utilizing debugging tools for problem isolation; will perform software builds, software upgrades, and patch installation as needed
• Possess the organizational and analytical skills needed to effectively isolate both hardware and software problems and drive solutions through to conclusion
• Able to clearly document processes and procedures with a focus toward mentoring and knowledge sharing
