ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST with Security Clearance

Summary You will serve as a ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION of NAVAL FACILITIES ENG COMMAND HAWAII. Duties * You will independently plan and carry out day-to-day assignments. * You will assist the Supervisory Environmental Protection Specialist on various sampling projects. * You will participate as a member of the hazardous chemical spill response team with the responsibility of assisting in the cleanup and decontamination of land bound hazardous chemical spills. * You will track projects through completion by monitoring resources for the job, funding availability and balance, and completion timetables. * You will pick up, transport, repackage and properly store hazardous and industrial wastes from various projects. * You will conduct inspections to identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions. * You will train new employees on sampling techniques and protocol. * You will carry out proper hazardous practices in order to identify, evaluate, and remedy conditions that may be hazardous to human health or environment. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. * You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. * This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. * You must be able to obtain a Government license to operate a 6,000 pound forklift, an electric forklift and a narrow aisle electric forklift. * You must have the ability to obtain a certification in asbestos and lead abatement and have documented training in hazardous waste handling and emergency response. Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing technical assistance for responses to spills and releases of oil and hazardous substances to facilitate containment, support cleanup actions, and minimize adverse impact to human health and environment;
2) Identifying properties and hazardous characteristics of chemical elements and compounds;
3) Identifying and Evaluating environmental problems and hazards found at shops of various activities;
4) Enacting measures to ensure compliance with laws/regulations, Executive Orders, and policies regarding the program management of hazardous waste, spill preventions;
5) Demonstrating the ability to clearly and effectively communicate orally and in writing.
