Duties * You will develop and maintain reports and technical documents that describe the traceability, configuration, and technical processes to calibrate the Primary and Secondary Measurement System and targeted workload. * You will identify, propose, plan, and execute projects to close the current and future measurement gaps with the NPSL Scope of Competency to effectively support Navy measurement requirements. * You will coordinate and collaborate with the internal Navy METCAL engineering community and external contacts to exchange technical information and develop, plan, and execute research. * You will serve as the Metrology Engineering Division Subject Matter Expert (SME) and provide technical oversight and expert knowledge in the metrology assigned areas to ensure technical adequacy. * You will provide technical advice, guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians regarding metrology engineering, measurement science principles, statistical/uncertainty analysis, troubleshooting and engineering investigation. * You will be conceiving, directing, coordinating, managing the NPSL and Fleet/Depot modernization projects across both the electrical and mechanical.measurement system. * You will provide technical direction and recommendation to various stakeholders through written and oral communication throughout the acquisition cycle in order to bring in the highest quality of measurement product. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Knowledge of Measurement Science, math skills, computer skills, electronics and mechanical skills; 2) Mechanical and electrical engineering tech principles, instrumentations; 3) Desktop computing including Microsoft Office applications; 4) Troubleshooting, logical-thinking, observational , and problem solving skills; 5) Ability to work well in a dynamic environment; 6) Knowledge on calibration, principles of metrology, and ability to interpret calibration procedures; 7) Knowledge of uncertainty, rules and regulations, and preventive and corrective maintenance. 8) Project management skill and ability to present complex concept in a professional forum. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
