Duties * You will serve as senior level expert for the implementation of unique and special purpose data sets that support non-standard shallow water acoustic and geophysical modeling objectives. * You will be responsible, with little or no supervisory assistance, for coping with difficult problems requiring innovative solutions based on broad experience. * You will represent the Division at high-level meetings where he or she defends the results of Division work and presents controversial proposals describing new plans and initiatives. * You will analyze data from all sources that have a bearing on the successful operation of shallow water models. * You will prepare comprehensive written reports and provides succinct oral briefings on work performed by the Division. You will be subject to random testing. * This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. Qualifications For GS-13: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-12) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: * Experience and professional mastery knowledge of the principles, theories, practices and established methodology of physical oceanography, geophysics, physics, mathematics, or other physical sciences; * Experience of interpretation of geophysical/acoustic data and the implementation of data sets; * Experience in oceanographic fieldwork, the deployment and recovery of instrument systems, and the at sea analysis of data; * Experience in collection, measurement, analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of natural and physical ocean phenomena, such as currents, circulation, waves, beach and near-shore processes, etc,; * Experience developing mathematical methods to solve a variety of scientific and engineering problems. Geophysics Series, 1313 Individual Occupational Requirements Basic Requirements: * Degree: that included at least 30 semester hours in mathematics (including calculus) and the physical sciences (geophysics, physics, engineering, geology, astronomy, meteorology, electronics, etc.). or * Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Oceanography Series, 1360 Individual Occupational Requirements Basic Requirements: * Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences. or * Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. * Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in biology or geology must have had at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with marine science or 6 semester hours in oceanography; applicants who qualify on the basis of other physical sciences or engineering must have had differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours in physics. Mathematics Series, 1520 Individual Occupational Requirements Basic Requirements: * Degree: mathematics; or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics. or * Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics), as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. * The total course work in either A or B above must have included differential and integral calculus and, in addition, four advanced mathematics courses requiring calculus or equivalent mathematics courses as a prerequisite.
