Duties * Develop, maintain, and communicate, U.S. Government (USG)/USSOUTHCOM policies, posture, plans and initiatives to address various regional threats/concerns. * Monitor USG national security policy directives and strategies for South and Central America, and the Caribbean. * Ensure rapid dissemination of CDR's strategic CD guidance to USSOUTHCOM components, subordinate commands, and sub-unified commands. * Evaluate and review applicable national security policy, posture and strategy directives and other DOD, Joint Staff, DOS and USSOUTHCOM staff actions to ensure USSOUTHCOM integration and compliance. * Analyze Command priorities and requirements to ensure USSOUTHCOM initiatives and current programs are best postured to counter illicit threats in the near, mid- and long-term. * Support multi-national information sharing initiatives to foster integration and cooperation with Area of Responsibility (AOR) Partner Nations (PN) supporting Counterdrug (CD) activities. Requirements Conditions of Employment * Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. * Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security clearance. * This position has a mandatory drug testing requirement. Employee must pass screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and subsequent periodic drug screening thereafter. * This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R "Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the drug abuse testing program". * Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) of at least 15% of the time away from home station. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing, maintaining, and communicating, U.S. Government (USG)/USSOUTHCOM policies, posture, plans and initiatives to address various regional threats/concerns; monitoring USG national security policy directives and strategies for South and Central America, and the Caribbean; advising on all aspects of the combatant command's Counterdrug (CD) policies and posture used to supplement and enhance National Defense and National Military strategy; proving critical feedback and recommendations regarding USSOUTHCOM policy positions in numerous national level strategic directives, posture and policy statements, and proposals to address emerging and current regional threats, global threats, and transboundary challenges. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
