Duties * You will Investigate/apply new approaches and advanced methods in evaluation, treatment, management, rehabilitation, and resolution of patient caseload assignments. * You will evaluate, manage, disposition and counsel an expansive range of complex and difficult patients populations including those involving auditory dysfunction associated w/traumatic brain injury, polytrauma or post-traumatic stress disorders. * You will serve as subject matter expert and provides independent management and oversight of Hearing Conservation Programs (HCP) and hearing loss prevention efforts for the AOR. * You will collaborate w/leaders, safety managers, reviews on hearing injury and work-relatedness, develop and implement sound program strategies, reduce occupational and operational hearing loss, and improve program performance. * You will manage and oversee Occupational Audiology processes, supervise technician staff, and implement/manage Hearing Conservation Programs. Qualifications FOR THE GS-12: In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: * Utilizing principles, practices, theories, procedures used in occupational audiology to implement and manage comprehensive hearing conservation Industrial/Occupational Hearing Conservation Programs; * Conducting assessment, diagnosis and treatment of acute and complex auditory disorders, determining differential diagnosis of cochlear, retro-cochlear, organic, and non-organic hearing disorders; * Assessing employee medical qualifications and service members, (i.e., active-duty service members), medical readiness as it pertains to the auditory system, and determining appropriate patient disposition through in-depth, comprehensive review of noise exposures, medical history and assessment, and employee safety concerns in addition to determining work-relatedness of hearing loss and objective evaluation/investigation of employee; * Adhering/observing organizational, (e.g., naval), medical referral standards and procedures related to hearing loss, communication impairments, and fitness-for-duty determination preferred; * Determining/distinguishing relationship between noise exposure and occupational hearing loss as it directly relates to the overall mission of the organization (e.g., Department of the Navy (DON)); * Managing and overseeing Occupational Audiology processes, supervising technician staff, and implementing/managing Hearing Conservation Programs, (i.e., skilled in interpersonal relationships in dealing with team members, managers and employees, oversee, motivate and manage diverse staff, assessing qualifications and of current and prospective employees; management expertise to monitor and report on the progress and status of work; evaluate program quality to ensure methods, deadlines and quality have been met; make adjustments to accomplish work in accordance with established priorities). Education: The mandatory education program described below must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (external link) (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (external link) (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained. (Please provide copy of transcripts. Failure to possess this factor WILL result in an ineligible rating.) Degree: For Audiologist positions, a graduate or higher level graduate degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of audiology with approved clinical practice. Applicants for positions with both speech pathologist and audiologist duties must have successfully completed all the requirements for a graduate or higher level degree with 18 semester hours in one of the fields with approved clinical practice and, in addition, must have either completed a minor in the other field or must have had at least 1 year of professional experience in the other field. AND Licensure: Must posses a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Speech/Language Pathology and/ or Audiology as applicable in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
