ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN with Security Clearance

Summary You will serve as an Engineering Technician in the Technical Support Branch (Code 135.1), Nondestructive Test Division (Code 135), Quality Assurance Office of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Duties * You will be responsible for insuring that all personnel conducting non-destructive tests are thoroughly trained and cognizant of the required procedures and standards. * You will be responsible for direct production NDT support. * You will provide technical guidance and support to other NDT examiners and other Shipyard personnel, NAVSEA, and contractors, in the use and application of nuclear and nonnuclear NDT procedures. * You will investigate nuclear and non-nuclear NDT applications for new/changed test requirements and design of new/changed NDT procedures and methods. * You will review and evaluate new test NDT equipment for Shipyard application. * You will conducts surveys and analysis of nuclear and non-nuclear NDT operations to identify and resolve problems affecting the quality and efficiency of NDT operations. * You will represent the Shipyard for all matters related to nuclear and non-nuclear NDT projects in categories such as eddy current, ultrasonic, radiography, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, and visual. * You will serve as a Shipyard expert responsible for the correct interpretation, procedure development and approval of nuclear and non-nuclear non-destructive test procedures and training required by NAVSEA directives. * You will independently establish requirements for technical evaluation of non-destructive testing to ensure continuing compliance to NAVSEA requirements, and develops, maintains, and conducts training in NDT methods for which he/she is responsible. * You will be responsible for initial, re-qualification, and refresher training of inspector personnel. You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs. * You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. * This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
* Experience with all phases of inspection techniques used in non-destructive testing.
* Experience with nondestructive testing and general knowledge of allied manufacturing processes, e.g., welding, forging, casting, etc.
* Experience with ultrasonic and/or radiographic testing and/or eddy current inspection (tube technique) and in one or more of the following: magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, eddy current (welds, dealloy) or visual.
* Experience with nuclear submarine design and with overhaul and maintenance procedures to ensure adequacy and efficiency of NDT processes.Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website:
