Duties * Primary staff advisor on all liaison matters to the Commander, his/her staff, and geographically dispersed command elements. * Works with Medical Readiness Command's (MRC) Public Affairs Office (PAO), Naval Support Activity Bethesda's PAO, and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center's (WRNMMC) PAO. * Plans, directs, and assists the arrangement, coordination, and execution of liaison services, programs, and events for the SRU and other tenant activities. * Determines attendees in accordance with the Commander's guidance, proper procedure and mailing of invitations, design and production of event programs, billeting arrangements, and transportation requirements. * This position also includes working with public affairs at other locations throughout the National Capital Region and other Military Service Agencies. Requirements Conditions of Employment * This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time. * see Additional Information section for more requirements. * Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. * This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination. * This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required. * Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights. * This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes coordinates or assists in planning military visits, meetings, and official or social events for high-ranking military and civilian guests. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Candidate with experience in public affairs is preferred. This includes experience with public affairs as a collateral responsibility. Public affairs responsibilities include basic photography, occasional video recording, maintaining official social media accounts, applying DoD public affairs policy and principles, and working with media outlets to tell the stories of Soldiers in Recovery and their families. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
