SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

Duties * Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and major repair on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical, and automotive vehicles. * Troubleshoots, repairs and/or overhauls, as a regular and recurring duty, a variety of the mechanically complex major systems. * Troubleshoots equipment with a variety of mechanically complex major systems and diagnoses difficult performance problems and the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks; and using test equipment. * Removes and disassembles engines and complex major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and fuel, hydraulic, and oil pressure systems. * Independently performs repairs and maintenance functions with little or no supervision in remote locations. * Conducts readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment supported by the activity. * Performs electrical repairs on complex state of the art electrical and electronic systems. * Performs other duties as assigned. GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Experience, education or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and able to use common tools and equipment in the line of work. WG-11 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Must have 18 months of specialized experience which demonstrates your experience in diagnosing, repairing, overhauling and modifying interconnected complex systems on a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles and equipment. Experience must also demonstrate broad knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, and repair. Experience in the use of technical manuals, and maintenance directives and publications as they relate to repair and inspection of equipment. Experience which reflects accurate use of blueprints, schematics, diagrams, etc. Experience in production control, work schedule planning, development and implementation of procedures, interpreting technical data, etc. Education This job does not have a qualification requirement that allows substitution of education for specialized experience.
