Duties * Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and major repair on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical, and automotive vehicles. * Troubleshoots, repairs and/or overhauls, as a regular and recurring duty, a variety of the mechanically complex major systems. * Troubleshoots equipment with a variety of mechanically complex major systems and diagnoses difficult performance problems and the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks; and using test equipment. * Removes and disassembles engines and complex major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and fuel, hydraulic, and oil pressure systems. * Independently performs repairs and maintenance functions with little or no supervision in remote locations. * Conducts readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment supported by the activity. * Performs electrical repairs on complex state of the art electrical and electronic systems. * Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment * Advanced in hire rate may be granted to set pay above the minimum rate of the grade for a new employee if he/she possesses superior qualifications relevant to the positions' requirements and is essential to accomplish the agency's mission. * Creditable Service for Annual Leave accrual may be granted to new employees if he/she possesses superior qualifications essential to the position; and which were acquired through performance in a non-federal or active duty uniformed service position. * The duties performed in a non-federal or active duty uniformed service position must directly relate to the position to which appointed and such qualifications are necessary to achieve an important agency mission or performance goal to be eligible. * NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Qualifications MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an Excepted Service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Maximum Military Grade - Warrant Officer: CW4 (W-4) Enlisted: SGM (E-9) Warrant Officer - Branch 12, 13, 14, 19, 25, 91, 92, 94, or MOS 882A Enlisted - CMF12, 13, 14, 19, 25, 88, 91, 92 or 94 Supervisor must verify that selected individual occupies a compatible military position. Title 32 National Guard employees will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (grade inversion). GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Experience, education or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and able to use common tools and equipment in the line of work. WG-11 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Must have 18 months of specialized experience which demonstrates your experience in diagnosing, repairing, overhauling and modifying interconnected complex systems on a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles and equipment. Experience must also demonstrate broad knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, and repair. Experience in the use of technical manuals, and maintenance directives and publications as they relate to repair and inspection of equipment. Experience which reflects accurate use of blueprints, schematics, diagrams, etc. Experience in production control, work schedule planning, development and implementation of procedures, interpreting technical data, etc. Education This job does not have a qualification requirement that allows substitution of education for specialized experience.
