Duties * Prepares and conducts instruction in the Aviation Safety Officer Course (ASOC), Ground Safety Officer Course (GSOC), and the CP-12 Intern Course. * Keeps abreast of new or changed doctrine particularly in safety and occupational health, instructional and evaluation techniques, and requirements as necessary to assure accomplishment of assigned functions. * Plans, organizes, and carries out the functions of the class manager for assigned classes in accordance with established suspense. * Completes schedules for assigned classes and arranges for guest speaker support, as required. * Recommends, obtains, and employs training aids and equipment. * Conducts studies to evaluate quality of instructional materials, interpreting results, and making recommendations to change training as appropriate for improvements. * Facilitates class discussions, lecture conferences, practical exercises, and case studies on theory and practical application of safety related topics. * Evaluates student performance and attainment of specified standards, particularly on written assignments and hands-on training events. * Performs research, analysis, and consulting tasks. Requirements Conditions of Employment * Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. * This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time. * This position requires the incumbent to possess either CP-12 certification, the Aviation Safety Officer's Course Certificate, or the Ground Safety Officer's Course Certificate. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes demonstrating methods/techniques of instruction by utilizing a wide range of teaching methods to conduct military safety and occupational health related training in areas such as accident investigation, safety program management, safety regulatory requirements, OSHA general industry standards, tactical safety, range safety, traffic safety, and airfield and heliport development/surveys; writing or developing safety and occupational health course training material; utilizing a variety of training aids, such as computer based material and devices, flip charts, viewgraphs, slides; evaluating student progress and training results. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
