MECHANICAL ENGINEER with Security Clearance

Duties * You will conduct engineering studies of mechanical equipment and services throughout installations to determine capabilities, service effectiveness and to determine operational improvements needed. * You will develop engineering designs and plans for mechanical and utility systems as a part of complex construction projects (e.g. commercial, lodging, industrial or institutional facilities). * You will utilize AutoCAD and mechanical engineering design/analysis software to produce proposed designs and results of studies. * You will prepare outlines of services, scopes of work, construction estimates, calculations and engineering fee estimate for work performed in house and under Architect-Engineer (A and E) contracts. * You will plan, budget, and monitor large scale utility construction projects to ensure compliance with applicable objective, standards, and requirements. Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Managing mechanical and/or Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) projects in various geographical locations; 2) Providing comments on technical adequacy and constructability of plans and specifications for mechanical and/or Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems; 3) Visiting construction sites to routinely identify mechanical and/or Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) problems and obtain solutions with support from the Supervisor, a Supervisor General Engineer (SGE), or other technical experts; and 4) Providing surveillance of construction contract submittals for mechanical and/or Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) components. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
