Responsibilities We are seeking a Mid/Sr. Level DSP Electrical Engineer to join the Peraton team in support of our Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution (SENSE) contract, serving our prime customer, NASA. This position will allow for 100% telework, with travel to NASA locations as needed, a person who is within a commutable distance locally will be preferred. As prime contractor on the Space Exploration Networks Services and Evolution (SENSE) contract, Peraton is responsible for the operation, maintenance, sustainment, and systems engineering of NASA's worldwide satellite communication networks. In this position, you will become part of NASA's return-to-moon and Lagrangian space telescope missions, developing new ground station capabilities for space communications. You will be an integral part of a world class team that ensures NASA space-ground communications are reliable and meet mission requirements. In this position, you will be responsible for characterizing the performance of state-of-the-art NASA satellite ground station modems. You will support development of DSP code supporting modem operation during complex scenarios involving multiple satellite links and the use of software tools for analyzing and establishing satellite flight dynamics. The work will also involve the integration of modems and test equipment, evaluation of RF signals, and configuration of networks. * Review requirements and interface control documents
* Develop testing campaigns test plan and test procedure documents * Conduct testing and results analysis to evaluate the performance of NASA modems
* Monitor and troubleshoot analog IF signals, as well as digital IF and baseband packets * Configure and troubleshoot modems, digitizers, digital-to-analog converters and network switches
* Develop documentation of day-to-day testing procedures and use of operational equipment
* Develop test reports and technical documentationQualifications Required Experience: * A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or other related engineering discipline, and 8+ years' of related technical experience in an engineering field; a MS degree with 6+ years is highly desired and candidates with an advanced degree will be given preference
* An understanding of RF communications, Digital Signal Processing (DSP), digital modulation and coding techniques, and signal distortions
* Experience configuring and troubleshooting modems
* Knowledge of or experience using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers and RF test equipment
* Experience with a scripting language; Python is preferred
* Experience with any of the following: STK, MATLAB and SIMULINK
* Ability to follow detailed work instructions and/or test procedures
* Experience with MS Visio, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Word
* Ability to obtain a DOD Secret Security Clearance (US Citizenship Required)Desired Qualifications: * Experience with satellite communication systems
* Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills including the ability to independently learn and implement complex engineering algorithms
* Experience with software radio transport protocols such as VITA-49, either for DigIF or baseband signals
* Experience with digital and analog interfaces
* Experience with testing, validation, automation, or control theory
* Experience and knowledge of NASA's Space Relay (previously known as Space Network) and Direct to Earth (DTE) Networks and associated communication systems
* Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
* Able to work both independently and collaboratively
* An active DOD Secret clearance
Target Salary Range $112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
