Job Summary:

The Failure Analysis Lab (FAL) located in McKinney, Texas, promotes process and product improvement through failure analysis and analytical services. Our team consists of a staff of engineers and scientists with varied backgrounds (EE, ME, Chemistry, Materials Science, Metallurgy, etc.) and broad experience. Team members provide support to Raytheon programs, suppliers, and end users by conducting thorough investigations of failure events and supporting a variety of data collection activities to address the changing needs of the electronics and defense industries.

Key responsibilities for the qualified candidate include:

Primary responsibility for this role is to perform root cause analyses to resolve failures and/or manufacturing issues in support of RTX programs. The candidate will serve as a principal investigator, coordinating analytical efforts across a multi-disciplinary team. Specific responsibilities include interfacing with internal customers, evaluating and diagnosing products at the system/assembly/component level, performing or coordinating various data collection activities, etc. The candidate should possess fundamental theoretical knowledge of various analytical tools including optical microscopy, FTIR/Raman spectroscopy, SEM/EDS/WDS, GC/MS, ICP-OES, XPS, TOF-MS, traditional wet chemistry (titrations), etc. The preparation of formal analysis reports will be required. Good interpersonal skills and oral/written communication skills are essential. The candidate will be required to multi-task and prioritize work with minimal direction. Candidate will work directly with customers to clarify requirements, manage priorities, solve complex problems, and communicate solutions to ensure the customer’s needs are met.

Requirements:

Minimum 2 to 10 years of experience in a chemistry lab (to include school & dependent on job grade).

Must be proficient with instrumental analyses and able to apply basic principles, theories, and concepts thereof.

Strong knowledge spanning multiple fields (organic, inorganic, analytical, physical chemistries, etc.) to support a variety of analyses.

Hands on experience with some analytical tools including optical microscopy, FTIR/Raman Spectroscopy, SEM/EDS/WDS, GC/MS, ICP-OES, XPS, TOF-MS, traditional wet chemistry (titrations), etc. Note, on the job training is provided.

Ability to independently author cogent technical reports and deliver presentations (verbal and/or written) to key stakeholders.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).

Desired Requirements:

General knowledge of other related disciplines such as electronics, mechanics, engineering, and materials analysis.

Ability to complete analysis work using problem solving skills and perform in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and able to work independently.

Strong customer interaction skills with engineers of all levels.

Self-motivated, proactive, and able to multi-task.

Demonstrated leadership experience through school or extracurricular projects.

Required education

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (or related field).

Desired Education

Master’s or PhD in Chemistry (or related field) with relevant job experience is a plus.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance. This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
