We are seeking a Chief Estimator to lead and mentor our estimating team for our client in Raleigh, NC.
Responsibilities:

  • Manage, mentor, coach, and train estimators and pre-construction engineers.
  • Oversee multiple estimating projects as a project leader or advisor within functional teams. Ensure quality control on all estimating deliverables prepared by support staff when required.
  • Lead and coordinate bid preparation requirements with the estimating team.
  • Develop a bid win strategy that aligns with profitability and Owner MWBE requirements.
  • Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, and conduct site visits to establish the scope of work.
  • Solicit pricing from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring trade participation before the bid deadline.
  • Thoroughly document subcontractor outreach, MWBE requirements, and scope verification in line with owner or general conditions.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and the pre-construction team to evaluate project specifications, requirements, and timelines.
  • Negotiate pricing with vendors/subcontractors and obtain quotes for materials and services.
  • Assemble detailed estimates using takeoffs and specification reviews to create accurate proposals.
  • Estimate indirect costs, including management, construction equipment, tools, and support facilities.
  • Compile bid proposal packages, including bid bonds, proposals, MWBE forms, and other necessary documentation.
  • Prepare budgets, subcontracts, purchase orders, and assist in preliminary project scheduling.
  • Lead design-build pursuits and Target Value Delivery opportunities.
  • Participate in proposal presentations.
  • Lead post-bid reviews to improve processes continuously.
  • Provide project and field management with detailed bid documentation and subcontractor negotiation recaps for successful bids.
  • Uphold the highest ethical standards in all professional and personal interactions.
  • Determine cost of work pricing, site logistics, and schedule verification in collaboration with the project team.
  • Develop duration estimates for specific construction activities based on the assumed approach and appropriate production rates.
  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures. Create cost models for estimating elements and prepare cost reports for presentation to design and client teams.
  • Participate in client presentations as needed.
  • Collaborate with the scheduling team to align production-based bottom-up cost estimates with construction schedules.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise-level estimating policies, processes, procedures, and guidelines for consistency across all projects.
  • Provide guidance and oversight for estimating software use, including protocols and standards.
  • Manage a database of estimation data, tracking and recording information from each job.
  • Evaluate and document historical cost data and construction methods to maintain current estimating standards and databases.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of commercial construction estimating experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a solutions-oriented approach.
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Ability to read and comprehend bid documents and drawings.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong skills in planning, collaboration, and conflict resolution.
  • Experience with estimating software such as Heavy Bid, Sage, OST, Procore, and takeoff software like Blue Beam.
Working Conditions:
  • Travel as required.
  • Manual dexterity for computer and peripheral use.
  • Overtime as necessary.
