 Performs a variety of patient testing and administrative tasks in support of the clinical activities in the UNCHCS.

This position has responsibilities in all the following sections of the Microbiology laboratory - Central Processing, Bacteriology, Mycology, Mycobacteriology, and Special Microbiology. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Direct specimen processing and direct specimen Gram stains AFB processing and smears Rapid antigen testing – Cdiff, Strep, Legionella, Trichomonas, Mono, Crypto Rapid molecular/PCR testing – RSV, Flu, Cdiff, Gram Positive Susceptibility, COVID testing Total Lab Automation instrumentation (BD Kiestra), plate reading and organism ID AFB and Fungal culture reading Susceptibility testing – automated and KB Quality control of instruments, reagents, and media Sendout testing 

Hours (options - other schedule options can be discussed at interview):

Wednesday-Friday 10:00am-8:30pm AND every other weekend (Sat/Sun) 10:00am-8:30pm; Rotating Holidays
Monday-Friday 1:00pm-9:30pm OR 3:00pm-11:30pm, rotating weekends and holidays
Thursday-Sunday OR Wednesday-Saturday: 10:00am or 11:00am-8:30 or 9:30pm 

Responsibilities:
1. Investigates problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and/or workflow.
2. May participate on teams or perform special projects/assignments.
3. May perform teaching of Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents and training of new employees. May serve as a technical resource.
4. Performs quality control and equipment maintenance in the appropriate laboratory.
5. Performs routine and less standardized test procedures which includes special chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic laboratory tests. Observes tests and reactions and provides data.
6. Prepares specimens and reagents, solutions, heat, or filters as required.
7. Reports results to healthcare providers. Consults/confers with health care providers regarding test results.
8. Reviews test results to ensure accuracy of report and timely correction of errors.

Education Requirements:
● Requires Bachelor's of Science degree. Must meet eligibility requirements upon hire to sit for MT exam within 12 months of hire.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Must obtain certification within one year of becoming exam eligible.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● No prior experience required.

MT Salary  Range: $24.13-$34.70 (Hiring Range)

MLT Salary Range: $20.80-$30.02 (Hiring Range)
