Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Location: Wilmington, DE

Job Type: Contract

Job Purpose

Under general supervision, the Electrical Engineer independently applies advanced engineering techniques, makes decisions on engineering problems and methods, and interfaces with the client to define project scope. This role is responsible for performing electrical engineering and design tasks associated with production, maintenance, process, capital projects, R&D, and power distribution, using established electrical technology and principles. The position requires performing electrical calculations and coordinating with other engineering design and cross-functional teams to implement tasks economically and expediently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Function as a project lead for small projects or an area lead for larger projects.
  • Define scope from receipt of basic data to issue for design process deliverables.
  • Interface with clients’ cross-functional teams to define operating requirements.
  • Study, design, and specify electrical systems, including power generation, power systems performance, and control, cabling and wiring, lighting, motor control centers, communication systems, and more.
  • Assess the quality, robustness, and capability of newly designed and installed capital projects.
  • Work with industrial electrical power distribution from high voltage (greater than 35kV) to low voltage (120V through 1kV).
  • Handle electrical power distribution equipment such as generators, substations, switchgear, transformers, and motor control centers.
  • Work with electrical utilization equipment, including motors (AC and DC), controllers, and electrical process equipment.
  • Provide electrical drawing knowledge (Single Line Diagrams, Three Line Diagrams, Schematic Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, and Physical Drawings).
  • Lead discussions around process control and involve additional technical resources when needed to resolve project viability, safety concerns, or hazards.
  • Provide engineering, checkout, and qualification for capital project process control systems, including distributive control systems, instrumentation technology, and programmable logic controllers.
  • Design, specify, and select instrumentation and control systems, including basic process control systems, safety systems, control panels, analyzer systems, and field instrumentation.
  • Self-perform or lead other engineers to complete project scopes, providing technical guidance to less experienced engineers.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analysis for project-related work.
  • Develop project estimates, scopes, and schedules, and lead estimate reviews.
  • Work with the Construction Manager during front-end loading and oversee project execution in the field.
  • Handle forecasting, project cost tracking, and scope changes both technically and commercially.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Control Systems.
  • 8+ years of related experience, preferably in the chemical, refining, or biofuels industry.
  • Experience with P&ID development, equipment sizing, electrical calculations, and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards (NFPA 70E/NEC, OSHA, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, API, and ASI).
  • Leadership experience in process design on capital projects, including responsibility for budget, schedule, and change management.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) license is preferred but not required.
