With over 200 acres of parks and greenways, the department offers year-round programs in athletics, aquatics, fitness, and cultural events for all ages. As Morrisville continues to grow, the department remains dedicated to setting the standard for livable, active communities in the Triangle.As Assistant Director, you'll help lead the department's operations, overseeing key divisions such as athletics, aquatics, senior and youth programming, while managing staff, budgets, and strategic initiatives. You'll collaborate on long-range planning, ensure high-quality service delivery, and serve as Acting Director when needed.Some specific examples include (this is not an exhaustive list and is only for illustration purposes):Assists the Director in overall department leadership and serves as Acting Director when needed.Directly supervises key divisions: Athletics, Aquatics & Fitness (MAFC), Senior Programming (MSC), Youth Programming (CFCC), and Special Events & Cultural Resources.Oversees staff hiring, training, evaluation, and discipline.Monitors budgets and contracts, under final review of the Parks Director.Leads development and implementation of departmental goals, policies, and long-range plans.Coordinates special projects, including facility upgrades and master planning.Develops and enforces standard operating procedures and safety protocols.Prepares reports, presentations, and communications for Town Council, Senior Leadership Team, and community stakeholders.Ensures high-quality customer service and emergency response readiness across facilities and programs.Of course there are always the other duties as assigned categoryThe Must Haves (Minimum Qualifications)Bachelor's degree in Parks & Recreation Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or ability to obtain within one year.710 years of progressively responsible experience in parks and recreation or public administration.35 years of supervisory or management experience.Set Yourself Apart (Preferred Qualifications)Master's degree in a related field.Experience managing budgets and contracts.Familiarity with long-range planning, facility upgrades, and community engagement initiatives.The Town of Morrisville recruits, hires, employs, trains, promotes, and compensates individuals based on job-related qualifications and abilities.
