Work Zone CoordinatorUnder the general supervision of the Traffic Manager, the Work Zone Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, inspecting and managing traffic control operations in and around construction zones throughout Santa Fe County, to ensure the safety of workers, motorists, and pedestrians.Essential Job Functions:Develop and implement traffic control plans (TCPs) for work zones in compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other applicable regulations.Assess project requirements and site conditions to determine appropriate traffic control measures.Oversee the setup, operation, and maintenance of traffic control devices, including signs, barricades, cones, and flagging operations. Ensure proper placement and visibility of devices to minimize disruptions and risks.Inspect private contractors' work zone installations within County Rights-of-Way; inspect existing work zones for compliance with MUTCD Part VI.Inspect signs to ensure proper visibility, reflectivity and placement; installs, fabricates & repairs work zone signs.Performs minor repairs and maintenance of work zone trailer and equipment; operates and maintains vehicles in safe and clean condition.Serve as a liaison between construction teams, contractors, and local agencies to ensure alignment on traffic control requirements and compliance with federal, state, and local safety standards.Communicate changes to traffic patterns or work schedules to relevant stakeholders.Maintain accurate documentation of traffic control plans, incidents, and daily activities.Provide training (train the trainer) for County Staff on traffic control procedures and safety protocols.Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local traffic regulations.Performs other duties as directed or assigned.Must complete all training as designated or assigned.Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of the MUTCD and Traffic Engineering procedures.Strong organizational, project management and planning abilities.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both in writing and orally.Ability to use software to create and analyze traffic control plans.Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or GEDTwo (2) years of experience in traffic control or related field.Certification as a Traffic Control Supervisor is required or must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.Working Conditions:Work is performed in an office environment and outdoors in varied weather conditions with exposure to dust, fumes, airborne particles and/or allergens. Work involves high risk or potentially dangerous situations, excessive noise, hostile individuals, and work near hazardous/moving equipment or machinery. Work may require the use of protective clothing, equipment, devices or materials. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands or arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel or crouch; and talk or hear. Ability to lift up to 100 lbs with assistance or equipment. Clarity of vision at long distance and short distance is required. Early morning, evening and weekend work may be required. May be designated as an essential employee on occasion.Conditions of Employment:Selected candidate must submit to and pass a County paid pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screening. Additionally, selected candidate must submit to and pass a county paid criminal background screening. Selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Class D Driver's License as incumbent shall be appointed to drive a County vehicle during the performance of his/her duties.
