Job Description:

Want to make a difference in the lives of the incarcerated population Come join our exceptional team of providers and teammates. Additional $3.00/hour facility differential for hours worked.

This position requires the individual to assist the providers and nursing staff with patient clinic visits to accomplish the goal of community standard patient care. It also entails helping with outpatient patient calls and tasks in conjunction with nursing team members. A general knowledge of medical assisting skills such as phlebotomy point of care lab testing simple dressing changes and injections is necessary.

Duties:
Place patients in exam room for the providers and prepare patients for indicated exam by taking vitals signs and performing any pretesting ordered by the provider.
Assist in reviewing charts the day prior to patient visit to ensure that all test results and needed information for patient visit is available.
Update patient histories including past medical history past social history past surgical history medication history and allergies.
Draw blood and prepare specimens to be sent to outside lab as needed.
Perform intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
Perform simple dressing changes as ordered by providers.
Perform and assist with office procedures as directed by providers including bladder scan flow rate bladder catheterization EKG etc.
Provide basic patient education and other patient teaching per protocols.
Assist with calls to determine location of medical services.
Perform patient tasks as ordered by physician including scheduling diagnostic tests obtaining outside records and scheduling appointments.
Make sure exam rooms are clean adequately stocked and ready for clinic visits.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: High school graduation or equivalent and 18 months of experience in a medical diagnostic laboratory or graduation from a postsecondary program in Xray or medical technology or completion of certification as a Certified Medical Assistant or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant.

Preferred: At least one year of medical experience in clinic or longterm care setting. Certification or registration in medical assisting.

Other: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the preemployment medical examination and a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Department of Correctional Services Preservice Training Program
