Campus Safety And Security DirectorProvides strategic direction and oversight for the University's safety and security, including the University's emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation programs. Leads and directs all campus public safety functions to ensure a safe and secure learning and working environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Develops and implements procedures and training programs that promote safety, compliance, and community engagement.ResponsibilitiesThe Director provides daily operational leadership for the Campus Safety & Security Office, ensuring the department's mission, goals, and performance metrics align with the University's objectives. This role schedules campus safety officers and serves as the primary Incident Commander for emergency response, while enforcing campus policies and maintaining compliance with all relevant Safety, Security, and Emergency Management regulations. Responsibilities include command and coordination functions; regular collaboration with local law enforcement, first responders, and emergency management partners; and ensuring accurate crime statistics and data are shared with appropriate agencies. The position conducts routine safety audits, inspections, drills, and tabletop exercises; assists with planning for special events and athletic activities; and oversees campus security systems including cameras, alarms, access control, ID issuance, and key control. Additional duties include managing campus parking enforcement, maintaining clear communication with senior leadership, and ensuring the effective operation of all safety and security programs across the campus.The Administrative responsibilities include serving as the campus subject matter expert for Campus Safety and Emergency Management, managing the campus emergency alert system, and issuing alerts as needed. This role oversees the preparation of key compliance documents, including the Annual Security & Fire Safety Report (ASSR) and other Clery, TIBRS, and Emergency Management reports, while also developing, implementing, and maintaining the Campus Continuity Plan. Additional duties include preparing budget justifications and recommendations; reviewing and creating policies related to Safety, Security, and Emergency Management; and evaluating compliance reports. The position identifies training needs and develops programs for departments and the broader university community, establishes departmental goals, hires and assigns personnel, and engages with faculty, staff, and students to address safety and security matters. The role also maintains and manages the Campus Safety & Security website to ensure accurate and accessible information.QualificationsMinimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree or equivalent experience working in or leading a Public Safety/Security OfficePreferred QualificationsMaster's Degree5 years experience leading a Public Safety/ Security office or 5 years in a command position at a law enforcement agencyNIMS training and experience working with & creating Emergency management protocolsExperience working with stakeholders in a rural environmentAbout UsLocated in southern middle Tennessee, UT Southern is about 70 miles south of Nashville and 40 miles north of Huntsville, Alabama.
