Patent Agent - Software & Electrical Technologies A prominent global law firm is actively seeking a Patent Agent to bolster its Intellectual Property team in the vibrant Seattle office. This is an exceptional opportunity for a talented professional with a robust background in electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, or physics, coupled with demonstrated experience in drafting patents for the software industry. The Opportunity As a Patent Agent, you'll play a crucial role in supporting our legal team on complex patent prosecution matters. Your responsibilities will encompass a broad range of activities, including the analysis of invention disclosures, conducting comprehensive patent searches, and the meticulous drafting of patent applications. You'll be instrumental in preparing responses to office actions and generating other essential documentation to advance patent prosecution efforts. Additionally, you may collaborate closely with our legal professionals on patent litigation support, due diligence assessments, and other significant legal initiatives. Key Responsibilities Drafting and Prosecution: Prepare and prosecute patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Client Communication: Engage effectively with clients on a variety of patent-related issues. Technical Analysis: Analyze intricate scientific and technical documents, including prior art and published patent materials, to evaluate inventions and issued patents. Document Preparation: Create information disclosure statements, declarations, and other vital materials for patent prosecution. Docket Management: Efficiently manage a U.S. and international patent prosecution docket, ensuring all deadlines are met. Examiner Interviews: Conduct interviews with examiners at the USPTO. Legal Development: Stay abreast of the latest legal developments and trends within the patent field. Qualifications & Attributes Educational Background: A Bachelor's or advanced degree (M.S., Ph.D.) in a relevant science or technical field, such as computer science, computer engineering, physics, or another engineering discipline. USPTO Admission: Admitted to practice before the USPTO. Communication Skills: Exceptional written and oral communication abilities are paramount. Interpersonal Skills: Proven ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and clients. Organizational Acumen: Highly organized and responsive, with a demonstrated capacity to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic, demanding environment. Work Ethic: A self-starter who thrives both independently and as a collaborative team member. Professional Standards: Strong academic credentials, excellent communication skills, and an unwavering commitment to delivering responsive and high-quality client service. Compensation and Benefits The annual salary for this position ranges from $120,000 to $180,000. Compensation will be determined during the interview process, taking into account factors such as prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, market conditions, and the candidate's geographic location.
