Are you searching for a hands-on role that keeps you active while supporting your community? The City of West Allis is hiring a Part-Time Library Cleaner to help maintain our public library. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in creating clean, welcoming spaces and enjoys tackling a variety of tasks in a dynamic environment.

As a Library Cleaner, you‘ll play a crucial role in ensuring the cleanliness and safety of our 48,000-square-foot library and its surrounding grounds. Your responsibilities will include cleaning restrooms, sweeping floors, dusting furniture, and setting up equipment for events. Your efforts will help create a vibrant, inviting space for patrons of all ages.

Hours: Monday - Thursday, 5:00 PM - 9:30 PM
West Allis residents earn an additional 5% on top of the pay range.

Typical duties include: sets up, dismantles, and moves various types of portable equipment used in the building; sweeps, vacuums, mops, wet-washes, floors; dusts and washes walls, trim, windows, computers, study carrels, and furniture; moves furniture, equipment, and supplies in and around the building; cleans rest rooms; washes sinks, drinking fountains, toilets, and urinals; follows disinfection and decontamination procedures when dealing with body fluids including, but not limited to, blood, saliva, vomit, urine, and/or feces; understands basic personal protective equipment (PPE) and its use; replaces disposables such as towels, soap, and toilet paper; cleans lighting fixtures and replaces lamps; cleans venetian blinds and shades; may work from pneumatic lift or ladders at times; collects and disposes of waste paper and refuse; sweeps and/or shovels snow and debris from stairs and walkways; controls ice buildups. Performs grounds maintenance duties such as picking up paper and debris, and sweeping walkways; reports on unusual conditions; occasionally performs deliveries of Library materials to City buildings, the homebound, and other agencies utilizing Library equipment such as a pickup truck; performs snow removal utilizing Library equipment such as shovels and snow blowers; enforces safety requirements and protects the building and grounds from vandalism; secures building at end of shift; performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma/ GED.
  • At least one year of recent paid work experience in general building cleaning is desirable.
  • Possess a valid Wisconsin Driver‘s License and good driving record per City policy.
  • Ability to work weekday evenings and overtime when emergency conditions require such duty.
  • Possess the physical capacity to perform the duties of the position including, but not limited to, the ability to perform manual work requiring average physical strength, occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. with aides, frequent pushing and pulling up to 25 lbs.; occasional shoveling of up to 50 lbs.; the ability to work from a step ladder, and the ability to continuously stand, walk, bend, kneel, sit, climb, twist, stoop, crawl, squat, lift, stretch and reach overhead, push, pull, etc.
  • Ability to drive a light truck.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Some knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in general building cleaning; some knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices; ability to perform a variety of building cleaning and maintenance tasks; ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, and the public.

traffic, and/or dust.
