Staff Software Engineer Focused On Backend InfrastructureSquint is growing our team with a Staff Software Engineer focused on Backend Infrastructure In this role, you'll architect and scale the core backend infrastructure that powers our platformensuring performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability. You'll play a critical role in shaping our foundational systems and services, influencing technical direction, and helping define how infrastructure enables product velocity and engineering excellence. As an early team member, you'll also help foster a world-class engineering cultureone that values collaboration, craft, and impact.Key ResponsibilitiesLead efforts around our core backend infrastructure, CI/CD systems, observability stack, and deployment pipelines to support Squint's rapid growth.Deliver robust, secure, and scalable infrastructure and backend services that enable fast iteration and enterprise rigor to serve the world's largest manufacturers.Partner with Engineering leadership on technical strategy and system design decisions.Mentor engineers on infrastructure best practices, performance tuning, and reliability engineering as a part of a curious and ambitious culture of growth.Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering to build infrastructure that supports user and business needs and meets compliance standards.Improve uptime, performance, and developer velocity through tooling, automation, and architectural improvements.Participate in incident response and postmortem culture to continuously improve system resiliency.Contribute meaningfully to building a world-class engineering culture.Flexibly contribute to get the job done we're a startupQualifications10+ years of experience working as a Software Engineer; having worked as a Senior, Staff, or Principal Engineer (or equivalent) in prior companies, with a strong focus on infrastructure, platform, or DevOps.Experience architecting and scaling backend systems in production, with strong knowledge of cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure).Deep familiarity with infrastructure tools and frameworks: Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring/logging (e.g. Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana).Proficiency with backend languages and environments such as Python, TypeScript (Node.js), or Go.Experience with both relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and non-relational (MongoDB, Firestore) databases.Excited about or proficient with AI-enabled developer tooling (Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code, Devin.ai).Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field; or equivalent professional experience in technical best practices.High energy, clarity of communication, curiosity, and customer empathy.Team-oriented, collaborative, and high-ownership mindset.Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.BenefitsBased out of our office in San Francisco, we love the energy of in-person collaboration.Competitive Salary and EquityComprehensive Medical, Vision, and Dental careFlexible PTO PolicyLunch and Dinner ServiceWellness BenefitMaven Family Planning BenefitsPartnership with Care.comMental Health Services401(k) Retirement PlanPre-Tax Commuter Benefit for Parking & Public TransitCompany-wide RetreatsA Final NoteWe are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace.
