Role Description
We are actively seeking a specialized Material Science Engineer to focus on the development and refinement of mesh materials used in the GovGPT Pufferfish Shield counter-drone defense systems. This role centers on engineering cutting-edge mesh designs for the GovGPT™ Pufferfish system, aimed at neutralizing aerial drone threats through rapid deployment technologies.
Product Description
The GovGPT Pufferfish is something we are working on with the U.S. and U.K. special forces: which is an expandable “airbag” for tanks, buildings, boats, and infrastructure which expands in milliseconds to provide a barrier to incoming drone strikes. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize advanced mesh materials specifically engineered to intercept and neutralize drone threats in a rapid deployment environment.
- Evaluate and enhance the strength, durability, and expansion capabilities of mesh materials to withstand impacts from various drone types, including high-speed and explosive drones.
- Innovate and apply combinations of materials such as ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), graphene, and Kevlar to improve the blast resistance and structural integrity of the mesh.
- Conduct rigorous testing and simulations to assess the mesh’s performance under real-world aerial attack scenarios, focusing on its ability to rapidly deploy and effectively neutralize threats.
- Develop self-healing and energy-absorbing materials to enhance the longevity and resilience of the mesh after deployment.
- Work collaboratively with aerospace engineers and defense strategists to integrate the mesh materials with electronic and mechanical deployment systems.
- Lead scalability and manufacturing processes to ensure that the mesh materials can be produced efficiently for wide-scale deployment in various military and civilian defense applications.
- Stay at the forefront of material science research to incorporate the latest technological advancements into the mesh design.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Material Science, Engineering, or related field, with a focus on materials for defense applications.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in material development for military or defense industries, with a strong background in fabrics and composites used in protective applications.
- Expertise in the properties of polymers, composites, and metals under dynamic impact conditions.
- Demonstrated success in innovative material solutions, with practical experience in bringing designs from concept to testing and use in operational environments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in the use of CAD and material simulation software.
Desirable Skills:
- Prior experience in UAV or aerospace defense projects.
- Knowledge of rapid deployment mechanisms and their integration with material systems.
- Familiarity with international standards and certifications for military-grade materials.
