Public Health Nurse I


The Nassau County Department of Health is seeking a New York State Registered Professional Nurse for a public health nurse position in its Division of Communicable Disease Control.

Public health nurses in Communicable Disease Control are primarily engaged in office-based activities to protect the public from the spread of over 70 communicable diseases, including tuberculosis. This is accomplished by investigating reports of communicable disease, taking appropriate measures to prevent the spread of disease, providing case management when indicated, and conducting activities to increase childhood and adult immunizations. Responsibilities may include vaccinating residents in response to a public health emergency or providing assistance at planned events such as the Long Island Marathon.


Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university.

Necessary Special Requirement: Possession of a license as a registered professional nurse in New York State.

Salary: $93,273

Benefits: Employer paid health, dental and vision insurance; vacation, sick and personal leave; as well as an excellent pension plan.

Residency: One year of Nassau County residency preferred, must be NYS resident.

Hours: Generally, Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 5 p.m.

Location: The current location is Mineola, however this is subject to change.

Job Type: Full-time
