The Transit Division of Irwin, including our UKM Transit Products Group, is focused on providing world class customer service to the Vehicle Builders and Mass Transit organizations in North America.


Irwin is seeking an accomplished individual to work as an Outside Sales Representative servicing the rail transit industry. They will support the day-to-day estimating, proposal generation, and sales efforts of the business unit. This should be done while developing a sound understanding of the core products and services of the company.


This person will report to (and be trained by) the Vice President of the Transit group while working towards the goal of being an integral part of the sales team and the long-term sales strategy of Irwin Car and Equipment.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Handle customer inquiries by identifying a customer's needs and capitalizing on sales opportunities
  • Learn Irwin and UKM Transit service and product lines and be able to articulate to customers.
  • Generating sales opportunities and proposals from customer inquiries
  • Cold calling and following up on leads from sales campaigns, conferences, and tradeshows.
  • Closing sales and seeing manufactured projects through to completion and shipment.
  • Provide inside sales and logistical support to the Industrial Sales Manager when necessary.
  • Read industry trends and project/forecast business based on those trends
  • Work with the vendor base to expedite critical items to facilitate on-time delivery of equipment.
  • Liaison with the engineering and production departments to provide status updates to customers.


Preferred Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Transit Industry Experience
  • Basic knowledge in metal fabrication, machining, and finishing technologies
  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical applications
  • Mechanical Engineering background is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Excellent active listening skills and an aptitude for problem solving
  • Comfortable making cold calls and talking to new people
  • Provide a positive attitude to foster a friendly work culture.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to multi-task as well as prioritize and manage time efficiently
  • Willingness to learn and become a vital part of a 130-year-old industry leading company
  • 1-3 years of experience in a consultative selling role and/or a 4-year college degree
  • Technical/Mechanical Sales Experience is a plus

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related Marketing, Sales, Engineering or Technical field


Work Location: The ideal candidate will prospect and generate new commercial business as well as perform cold-calls in the field to generate new permanent sales. This candidate should be able to support existing clients and have an ability to conduct product demonstrations.
