Position Summary:

The Senior Robotic Engineer will be a part of the R&D organization and an important contributor to the realization of the next generation robotic platform that will change the future of healthcare. You will be a highly visible technical resource for model-based design mainly using Simulink & MATLAB development tools to support, build, and test complex subsystems of a medical robotic platform. This role is suited for an R&D engineer with experience in complex hardware, real-time control systems, including using electrical analysis tools, resolving design interface and integration issues, and creating accurate computer models for model-based control. This roll will also include deployment of models on real-time hardware, and subsequent analysis for verification and validation.


Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, define features, create requirements, develop, test, validate and officially release development tools in EVR quality management system.

• Collaborate with other engineers to develop a set of tools by developing and implementing simulation models and processes for a complex medical robotics system.

• Conduct feasibility studies, design, analysis, and product testing using Simulink (and Simulink Real Time), MATLAB (and other languages as needed).

• Lead validation of models using lab test data, thus ensuring accuracy and reliability of electrical simulations.

• Discover and resolve electrical design interface and integration issues.

• Author best practices documents for more efficient model-based design approach.

• Help with the creating and maintaining code libraries to support modular design.

• Maintain disciplined test, configuration control, documentation, and management processes throughout.

• Support a variety of multi-disciplinary technical and process improvement projects of different sizes and scopes.

• Manage and communicate assigned projects in collaboration with cross-functional teams.


Qualifications:

• 7+ years work experience in model-based design using Simulink, Simulink RT, and MATLAB developing complex electromechanical test systems including pre-processing, solves, post processing, and model validation in an R&D environment. At least 3 years experience in medical device development.

• Minimum a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required. Masters degree is a plus.

• Knowledge of industry best practices for model-based design development for electromechanical systems and control.

• Experience with Speedgoat real-time hardware is a plus.

• Experience with simulation of electronic/electrical systems including PCB analysis, EMI/C simulation, power electronics simulation including motors, and thermal analysis of electronics enclosures expected.

• Familiarity with ASME V&V (Verification & Validation) 40 a plus.

• Experience with troubleshooting hardware and software including through the use of measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators, custom test platforms, spectrum analyzer, etc expected.

• Experience with electronic design and analysis tools is required.

• Experience with embedded hardware and fieldbus communication protocols (EtherCAT, etc.) is a plus.

• Previous experience in design transfer/new product introduction desired.

• Experience with statistical tools and software such as Minitab and MATLAB desired.

• Must have experience in cross-functional collaboration and technical leadership.

• Must have experience in project management including task timeline estimation and work breakdown structures.

• Able to execute assigned projects and duties with minimal supervision.

• Outstanding documentation and communication skills required.

• Use of Microsoft Azure or similar development and code mangement tools is required.

• Proficiency in using MS Office required.
