Senior Frontend Engineer - Level IV

Role Overview:

This is an atypical frontend position. The small frontend team (currently 4 developers) housed within the Trilliant Health Engineering team (20+ developers) has nearly full control over our tech stack and deployment method.


At this time, we create new sub-applications, or add new features to existing sub-applications as part of an existing SPA platform built in Typescript and React. Our build and deployment tooling uses a highly customized Webpack config—you will find no trace of Create React App here—along with several custom scripts to shape the final output of our static assets.


In addition to controlling our tech, we also have a very large influence on the design of the applications and features we create. A frontend engineer is expected to learn, iterate upon, and improve our existing design language. Whether or not a project has a designated designer it is the frontend engineer’s job to be an expert in UI and UX and synthesize the goals of the project with the expectations of our customers.


As a senior frontend engineer, you will often be in the position to teach and mentor. This might be mentoring engineers with less experience than you in general, or it might be teaching senior engineers with less experience in a given area. Additionally, you will often need to explain parts of your decision-making process to non-engineers so our teams can better understand feasible boundaries of the new products and features we are building.


More broadly, the larger Engineering team (mentioned above, 20+ developers) builds and maintains the production systems upon which Data Science applies models, Research constructs analyses, client representatives run queries, and clients gain insights. We gather, organize, and consolidate multiple streams of data into logical structures, optimized for inspection at various levels of abstraction for various known and unknown use cases, and we provide the interfaces through which that inspection occurs.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Math, Engineering, or Computer Science or commensurate industry experience

• 7+ years of frontend software engineering experience

• Great communication skills and the ability to explain your solutions to non-technical audiences

• Problem solving, analytical, and organizational skills

• Good project planning and project management skills

• Self-starter – able to work independently. We are a team but do work remotely.

• General knowledge of frontend frameworks and Typescript or specific knowledge of React

• Experience shipping complex web applications built with Javascript/Typescript
