The Minneapolis Police Department is looking for experienced Police Officer candidates - people who have a strong sense and commitment for public service, outstanding character, sound judgment, excellent work ethic, effective oral and written communication skills, interpersonal tact, empathy, and compassion. This is a full-time position and requires variable work shifts, including weekends and holidays. Officers hired in this lateral hiring process will participate in a one-month orientation and on-boarding process.Job duties and responsibilities include: patrolling assigned areas to enforce laws, detecting and preventing crime, apprehending and arresting law violators, drafting and executing arrest warrants, establishing probable cause, drafting and preparing search warrants, conducting follow-up investigations, enforcing traffic laws, collecting and investigating evidence, conducting surveillance, interviewing and interrogating witnesses, recording and investigating complaints, responding to alarms, protecting the rights and safety of individuals, recovering lost property, and functioning as a field training officer.Required qualifications include a valid driver's license, a valid Minnesota POST license or the ability to obtain one prior to the date of hire, previous law enforcement experience (1 year preferred), and passing the MPD background investigation. Candidates must also be medically and psychologically fit, pass a drug and alcohol screening, and meet the physical requirements of the job.The selection process includes application review, training and experience review, department interviews, background investigation, conditional job offers, and pre-employment medical exams.
