LHH Recruitment Solutions has partnered with a growing organization, and they are seeking a motivated Environmental Engineer to join their team in Ottawa, IL. You will lead the environmental operations, ensuring compliance and timely reporting for all regulatory permits and conditions. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) or Chemical Engineering and have at least 2 years of experience in an environmental position in a regulated chemical facility, particularly in a Process Safety Management (PSM) environment. Experience with permitting procedures, auditing, root cause analysis, and solid waste landfill operations is highly desirable. Possession of a Class K Wastewater license and certified landfill operator license is preferred. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead environmental operations, ensuring compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, permits, and conditions.
  • Conduct environmental audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement and ensure adherence to environmental standards.
  • Develop and implement environmental programs and initiatives to minimize environmental impact and promote sustainability.
  • Manage permitting procedures, including the preparation, submission, and maintenance of permits required for facility operations.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for environmental incidents and develop corrective and preventive actions to mitigate future occurrences.
  • Oversee solid waste landfill operations, including waste management, disposal, and compliance with landfill regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain environmental monitoring systems to track and report on environmental performance indicators.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate environmental reports to regulatory agencies as required.
  • Provide environmental training and support to employees to ensure awareness and compliance with environmental policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address environmental issues and implement best practices.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Chemical Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of environmental experience in a regulated chemical facility, particularly in a Process Safety Management (PSM) environment.
  • Experience with permitting procedures, auditing, and root cause analysis.
  • Solid waste landfill operations experience is a plus.
  • Possession of a Class K Wastewater license and certified landfill operator license is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and environmental management software.
