About the role 

We’re building our infrastructure engineering team and are looking for a developer with 3+ years of streaming audio and video infrastructure experience. This role will focus on implementing our WebRTC backend systems to support group communication for our customers. You’ll work closely with the client engineering teams to ensure we’re delivering an exceptional user experience. 


Responsibilities 

You’ll design and build our voice and video infrastructure to support online community conversations. 

  • Develop the critical WebRTC infrastructure to support communities on Root 
  • Design and optimize the infrastructure to deliver an exceptional user experience while optimizing bandwidth 
  • Pioneer design patterns leveraging STUN and TURN servers in our cloud environment 
  • Collaborate with the client engineering teams to make critical decisions on codecs, resolutions, framerates and noise gates  


What does success look like? 

The WebRTC infrastructure works with high reliability across our client apps and is ready for product launch. 

  • Your code enables communities to communicate effectively on Root; users love them 
  • Your code uses best-practice architecture; Root is able to scale and grow  

 

Qualifications 

Three+ years of demonstrated experience building WebRTC infrastructure. 

Streaming technologies 

  • Low latency streaming audio 
  • HD video streaming on desktop and mobile devices with WebRTC 
  • Screen capture and streaming on desktop devices  
  • Kubernetes / cluster experience (or other orchestration architectures) 
  • STUN/TURN server experience 

General skills 

  • Analytical skills to define a problem, identify solutions, and recommend a course of action 
  • Communication skills to educate others on how your projects are designed, implemented, and maintained 
  • Project management skills to keep stakeholders informed and deliver to a timeline
