JOB PURPOSE

As a Shop Foreman, this role will play a vital role in overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of a shop or service center. This role will be responsible for supervising a team of technicians or mechanics, ensuring that work is completed efficiently, accurately, and in a timely manner. The role holder’s strong leadership skills, technical knowledge, and problem-solving abilities will contribute to the success of the shop and the satisfaction of our customers.


KEY PERFORMANCE METRICS

Competencies/Skills Knowledge:

  • Technical Skills must include specific knowledge of machining/repair position.
  • Leadership – responsible for supervising a team. Must be able to motivate and inspire their team to work efficiently while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Strong Communication skills for effective collaboration. Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Time Management skills to ensure repairs are completed on schedule.
  • Technical skills must include specific knowledge of machining, cost control, manufacturing processes, and shop floor control.


Key Job Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise and manage a team of technicians or mechanics, providing guidance, support, and training as needed.
  2. Allocate work assignments to technicians and ensure that work is performed in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.
  3. Monitor and review the progress of work orders, ensuring that deadlines are met and any issues or delays are promptly addressed.
  4. Conduct regular inspections of work in progress and completed repairs to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications.
  5. Troubleshoot and diagnose complex mechanical issues or problems, providing technical expertise and guidance to technicians.
  6. Coordinate and schedule maintenance and repair projects, ensuring that resources, equipment, and materials are available and utilized efficiently.
  7. Maintain and update service records, including work orders, repair logs, and customer information, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  8. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies, promoting a safe and clean working environment for both employees and customers.
  9. Collaborate with other departments or teams, such as parts procurement or customer service, to facilitate smooth workflow and customer satisfaction.
  10. Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices, continuously enhancing your knowledge and skills to improve shop operations.
  11. Proficient in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical issues or problems.
  12. Strong knowledge of shop equipment and tools, including diagnostic equipment and hand tools.


EDUCATIONAL AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certifications in the field of welding, machining, materials as related to fabrication.

Work Experience:

  • 8+ years in a manufacturing/repair position.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety regulations, compliance standards, and environmental guidelines.
