As a teammate you will get the opportunity to visit many of our beautiful State Recreation and Wildlife Management Areas.This Temporary full-time Maintenance Specialist position will range from semi-skilled to skilled construction worker. You will get to work alongside of and learn from our skilled craftsmen on projects that will consist of minor repair work, to large scale construction projects. Job duties will require physical manual labor with the use of both hand and power tools, along with the operation of light to heavy earth moving equipment.Job Duties:Assisting in a wide variety of construction activities including but not limited to moving dirt to construct roadway and camping pads for new campgrounds.Operate machinery, such as skid steers, wheel loaders, mini excavators, forklifts, and other equipment and tools in the performance of duties.Replacing or installing new concrete sidewalks or trails.Plan for and perform regular maintenance of equipment, tools, and machinery.Assisting winter operations such as snow and ice removal.What We Can Offer You:Hands-on training in construction.The opportunity to travel and work in beautiful State Recreation and Wildlife Management Areas across the state.Professional development opportunities.Requirements / Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or other building trade. Experience in building maintenance, a mechanical trade, or performing safety inspections, investigations or training may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis as determined appropriate by the agency.Other: A valid driver's license is required.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:General knowledge of building construction and/or maintenance practices.Ability to safely maintain and operate equipment, powered tools, and hand tools necessary for the construction or repair work assigned, including skid loaders, back hoes, rubber tire loaders, trenchers, and other equipment and tools.General knowledge in the use of construction levels and how to set grade for and figure percent of slope for drainage and ADA projectsPerform manual labor, work in adverse weather conditions, tight spaces, climb ladders, conduct inspections, and identify safety hazards.Ability to communicate effectively and understand and follow directions.Read and comprehend blueprints and determine materials and equipment necessary to complete projects.If you're currently employed by the State of Nebraska, please don't apply through this external career site.
